I have a pair of carolina riding boots. they were a good price and quality/style too. But they fall short when it comes to just wharing a cool pair of sneakers in good weather. On the other extreme got a big comfy pair of boots a walfart for really bad rideing weather but have not used because can not get use to the feeling of feet in a balloon . theres allways a tread off imo.
I have a pair of Timberland laceups that I use when I have to do a lot of walking or more of a casual feel. I have a pair of heavier Irish Setter laceups that are goretex linned for foul weather. I have a pair of 18 inch engineer boots that I have had for years, which reall suprised me on how comfortable they are, but have to use them only for day trips as I have to have a boot jack to get out of them.....
I've got a brand newpair of(size 11 1/2, 8" tall) Harley Davidson Faded Glory boots. My wife bought them as a christmas present. She threw the box away, because she was sure of my size, and I was unable to return them without the box.I put them on, stood up, sat back down and took them off. Didn't even walk across the room. I have a metal plate in my leg, and the top of the boot hit my leg right where the plate is. I ended up getting a 6" tall pair. If they're your size, I'll sell them for $50 plus whatever it cost to ship them.
I own a pair of HD brake light boots. Had then a year and love them. I am 350 lbs. and have yet to even add cushy insoles, My feet feel great in them. Saw them in a ad this weekend at one of the bigger dept stores for $80. Worth every dime to me. They zip up on both sides and you can tighten or loosen them. Being able to unzip and slide them off is great.
For me it depends on what I will be doing other than riding. If I will be walking around a lot then the it is either the Harley Storm boots{ new on ebay 50 bucks} or the redwing work slip ons,new for 180 bucks resoled 4 times and finally leather is starting to crack.if I am just riding then the Herman Survivor engineer boots get the nod, another ebay score for 20 bucks. I gotta say the Harley storm boots have proven the most comfortable in a wide range of temps, from 35-100 and never got my feets wet in a couple hour ride in the heavy rain. Probably gonna get a pair of military boots that are similar to the storm boot except they hace a cordura side on them again ebay new for well under 50 bucks, belleville is what they are called and you can get tan or black, had some and they were good too except I burned em up by leaving them too close to a campfire to dry , DOH !!!
as others have said it depends what i'm gonna be doing. If it's just riding, I have a pair of HD boots (slipons, with side zip) which have a tread that grips like a son of a gun. However, they are lousy for walking around in for any real length of time.
I have a pair of Hitec boots, which cover the ankle and are extremely comfortable to walk around in. These are my "rally" and commute boots. They aren't as good in the grip department as the HD boots, but they aren't bad, and wear incredibily well. They felt so good i ordered a second pair, which are kept in reeserve if and when these wear out.
I try to never wear tennis, as they provide very little in the way of sure footedness.
