Default Cam....Question

I have a 09 SG...96ci V&H power duals, screaming eagle heavy breather. CFR exhaust, Race tune....My Service Manager Has been after me for the past year to Install a set of 255 Cams...He said it will make the motor come alive....But at 30k on the miles now is it worth it....or are the cams even worth it...???

He said the 255 would give it a nice boost and still maintain

Which cam depends on riding style. Compensator may be due for a change out. Also, one needs to change out bearings and maybe tensioners. Lots of threads on cams, but my recommendation for the 96" would be a SE204 if you are going to stick with Harley cams.

The 255 cam is a good match for the 96 engine.

255 is at its best in a 96 bagger , if ya can get them cheap, but Andrews 48 is a much better bolt-in choice. Do at least change out cam bearings.

I would go with the SE204's over the 255. It will run cooler, sound better, and isn't an epa cam. I would change the bearings and probably the lifters. The 204's are easier on the starter and valve train as they don't have nearly as much lift .508 vs .556 and don't build nearly as much cranking compression and will carry higher in the rpm range. The 255's will work, but the 204 will work better.

At 55000 I put set of Andrews 26 and it made the biggest difference....do it your *** dyno will feel it ....now 83000 miles and still strong....I will refresh the top end with a 107 kit at about 125000 miles....30000 miles. Lol that's just broke in good, you make it sound like it's at it life's end or something ...come on man

X2 on the starting concern and sound. It looks like you have a pretty loud exhaust system so you will probably enjoy the lope at idle. Add some HC pistons in the future and it will sound even more bad ***.

The 204's, Andrews 48 or Woods 222's would be my choice for a 96" engine. I ran 204's for 27,000 miles and loved them.
