I'm going to get a bit of custom painting done on my gas cap cover but the guy who's doing it needs the paint code for Ember Red Sunglo. I stopped at the local HD shop only to find out that HD doesn't give out paint codes for their paint. I said, "Huh??" According to them the only way I can get the correct color is to go to a body shop and have them analyze the paint on my bike and provide me with the closest match. They offered to sell me a quart of Ember Red Sunglo for somewhere around $500, which was nice of them... They said that would be enough paint to cover two bikes. What do you guys think I should do??
And get ready to pay. I had 1 pint of each made up, it was $200 at paint shop cost. It's a code "T" price due to specialty pigment in the base. Out of that amount though I was able to get hard lowers, mid-frame deflectors, and CVO saddlebags painted.

. I just had a Napa auto paint store mix me a pint of mistique green and a pint of vivid black for 29.00 a pint. Here in Mesa Az. I did have the paint codes. Some of the numbers you see here are paint numbers not paint.codes.
You can get stores to mix some of the older colors that have codes released. Newer model year multi-stage paints like Ember Red Sunglow, Candy Orange, Vintage Bronze, etc. are all "factory pack" PPG made for MoCo. You aren't going to be able to buy them anywhere else.
Shop around. When I bought Candy Orange for my RK, I found that the price varied by more than $100 among the 3 dealers closest to me.
I had my inner painted this winter. My local body shop matched the paint perfectly to a supplied side panel I gave them. He said the paint code was no good to him as they didn't use ppg paint. I took the bike in to show them in the spring and he brought out his new paint book and put it on the fairing, 2014 viper has the same colour as my 2012 ember red sunglo street glide. They may be able to mix the paint based on that.
