Default Problems after ape install

First want to apologize for long post...Ok so after my ape install I seem to have a little bit of an electrical gremlin now. I installed 12" Kst Kustoms Mayhem bagger bars on my '14 sgs. The install went ok with some minor glitches, first I had trouble pulling the TBW wires through with those plug connectors they had about 4 in from the TBW. They just wouldnt pass through the bars, so i decided to cut the plugs out and solder the wires together.

Put everything together and my throttle didnt work, I had no response from the throttle. So I tore it apart and found I had spliced 2 wires wrong, repaired that and put it back together. Fired it up and every thing is all well. Took it for a test ride and everything was ok.

Fired it back up again and my security light came on and stayed illumintated while I was on my way to work. Then I noticed at a red lite that my left blinker indicator was fast flashing when I was making a turn. When I got to work I noticed that my left rear blinker wasnt working. I checked the engine codes and came up with 2 faults in the BCM (b2169,b2154), reset the codes and it was fine till i was about 1/2 way home and the security light came back on. Checked the codes again when i got im my garage and they were the same ones came back and my blinker wasnt working again. Only this time the code wouldnt stay cleared. I thought maybe the buld might be burned out so i swapped them. Well it worked on the other side, all was well for a few min then the right side wouldnt work anymore. Cleared the code and took it for a longer ride ~40miles and it came back on about 5 miles into the right and the right rear blinker wont work. And it wont clear and stay cleared.

Now I know it sounds like the bulb might be the culprit but the filiment is good, so im kind of at a loss. I tore the fairing back apart to make sure nothing was kinked but eveything seems good. Is there any way the dealer might be able to reset just the BCM? Could there be just something wrong with the BCM ? I dunno, I have a feeling i may have damaged my switch wiring when i was pulling them through the bars....would there be a way to change just the wire for the switches? or do you have to by the switches with the wires already attached? What would you guys do? Does anyone have part numbers for the switch wires?

Thanks for your help in advance, bike runs awesome still and love the new bars

if u can solder go buy a switch and do it.. you don't have a lot of room to do the work tho.. after my bar install all my lights worked fine.. after a week of tweaking everything and getting my controls and levers where I wanted them my right blinkers don't work and I don't feel like fixing it lol.. I just don't turn right at night if there are cars behind me haha

I do believe that you are a victim of the canbus system. Do your own research on the downfalls of canbus. Basically, canbus sends "pulses" of varying durations and voltage to tell the various functions of your bike what to do. When you alter the length of wires and change connections you could affect the canbus' s ability to send the correct pulse.

Hopefully someone with more electric knowledge than me stops by to set me straight or give you help. Canbus confuses the dogsnot out of me

How did you extend the rest of your control wires? Did you cut and solder or use an extension kit? if you cut them, that is your issue...they are twisted pairs and operate from resistance.

The wire for the switch housings i used harley extentions, i didnt cut any of those. The only ones i cut were on the throttle by wire, and i didnt extend them i just cut the green plug out of the circuit and soldered the wires together.

Don't know if this helps?

Table 5-22. B2154 Diagnostic Faults
POSSIBLE CAUSES
Left rear turn signal bulb current too high
Accessory lighting overloading circuit
Short to ground in left rear turn signal power circuit

DTC B2169 will set if the running lights circuit is above 3
Amps.

I tore the bars apart again the other night and rang with handle bar switch wires out and they have continuity, one thing I didnt check and cfreeze's comment turned me onto it was short to ground.....guess i will have to take it apart again and check that. I had a gut feeling the problem is in the wires that i pulled through the bars. Gonna have to take em apart again, now the question would be do i try and repair the wires if in find them damaged or just get new ones and be done with it.

I would guess that you have some heat shrink that's been pierced by a strand that's tapping the innards of your bars.
