Default 2014 Trailering question

I am going to be heading on vacation soon and I will be taking my 2014 ultra classic with me in a enclosed trailer. In the past, I have always wrapped soft straps around the lower triple tree but I notice some wiring and plumbing under there on the 2014's. Do I have to buy that chrome doodad that harley offers that attaches to the side of the forks for a anchor point or can I still go around the lower triple tree? Any input is appreciated.

I don't know what you are using in the trailer but a buddy of mine and I trailered our bikes out of winter wonder land to Myrtle for spring break this year to get into the wind early. We mounted Harbor Frieght stands in his trailer and tied the bikes down with the straps around the engine guards right on top of our pegs. Worked ok but the tie down brackets would have kept the bike more stable (rocking side to side) since they mount higher and add more triangulation.

On my 2011 Limited, I always put soft ties around where the engine guard connects to the frame and it worked really well. But it could be a pain connecting and removing the soft ties. On my 14 Limited there are radiator hoses in that area that I didn't want to mash. So I did buy the chrome attaching points that Harley sells. I will say that it is much easier to attach here, I really like them. By the way, I have had the tie downs slip going down the road so I now use 4 on the front. Two on the Harley attaching points and one on each engine guard just above the highway pegs.

I have a condor wheel chock in the trailer. I have also seen the ratchet straps slip. What I have been successful with is I ratchet down the bike and then I also use a regular quick release strap with the serrated teeth that grip the strap. This has always worked for me.

Get a wheel choke. Mine came unstrapped and was still standing when I got home.

I have a set of these that I mounted on the bike once, put straps on them once, but never used while trailering. I will be willing to sell them for $45 shipped to anybody that wants them. Still have instructions and original box.

I put the tie down brackets on my 14.

Works great....

I used to just bend the brake line a bit and move the wiring to tie the trees, the 14s have everything tied to the trees tight, no way to get a strap on it without chancing damage.

A 2014 UC might be different, but you may get some ideas from how I strap my Streetglide in our toy hauler ....

Baxley wheel chock .... four straps at four points, two around the crash bar/downtube & two around the passenger footpegs all using soft straps .... a home-made frame support (four 2x4's with a shamis) to prevent movement of the suspension .... you do not want to fully compress the supsension when strapping. The bike literally does not move at all with this setup!

I got the tiedown brackets for mine.
I look at it as a good investment, especially if you have a breakdown and have to get towed on a flatbed.
