Default Mileage differences

My wife and I just got back from our annual MC trip out through Wyoming, great trip by the way but when we got back and I checked the mileage there was 100 mile difference between what her bike said and mine.
She rides a 2000 Fat Boy and I'm on a 2011 SG, both have stock size tires. My thinking is they should have been very close to the exact same reading on mileage since we were together all of the time.
Any thoughts?

Thanks
Louie

Depends on how many total miles you went. I am amazed when I take road trips with two other Harleys. All have different mileage total. Almost 100 miles out of 2k miles. No side trips to get stuff at the Wal-Mart or grocery store or dinner? That stuff adds up quickly.

After a 3600 mile trip my Son and I had the same thing. My (07Wideglide) Had new tires and his (07 Fugly) had about 4000 miles on them when we left. Also noticed 3 MPH diff in speedometer reading. His was reading 75 when mine read 72,

Thanks. No, no side trips the total mileage was 2089 on her bike and on mine it was 2189.

After thinking about it, it seems obvious to me now that it would only take .1 or .o5 mile difference in speedometers to account for the 100 or so difference between bikes. I guess that's not so bad after all.

I am sure it is the difference in the accuracy of the speedometers.

100 miles? Maybe she waited for you when you made all those wrong turns to turn around and come back!

I have gps on my bike, speedo says 75, GPS says 71. I would guess the GPS is more accurate but not sure.

I run with the GPS speed and have never been pulled over.

Tire life would have something to do with it also. If one had most tread an another half tread, it would change the over all circumference of the tire, thus distance travelled per revolution and affect the odometer reading.
