Those tires are regular Dunlop, not elites. elites are a lot cheaper than the stock Dunlop.

As to the rear, I typically get 10 to 12k.

Fronts usually go 18 to 22k.

I run 40/40 front rear for pressure.

So, I would still ride em, for this ride and replace them upon my return.

P.S. mileage for the elites will go up.

I buy my tires online, unless I need one on the road

Jake Wilson usually has good prices.

Thanks for the info, who do you get to mount and balance your tires and what is a fair price for the service. I see prices all over the place if you buy their tires from 10.00 all the way up to 150.00 so far.

I want to use Jakewilson.com but will probably need them mounted and balanced.

I mount them myself and use ride on for balancing. if you need to pay someone for that service I would find an Indy vs the dealer. labor is usually a half hour for mount and balance

I'm going to look around for sure. The local indy in my small town wants 150.00 to mount and balance and thats buying tires from him. Just looked at Jakewilson and wow what a savings I sure got ripped last year from Mr. HD! and no lube went with it in fact they screwed up my rear brake caliper installing the rear tire.

For me, the Dunlop American Elites are 20K tires front and rear. 41/41 PSI is best.

WOW I guess I am lucky , the HD dealer charges $40.00 to mount , and balance a tire if I take them the wheel, or 1 hour per wheel if they pull them.

If you want to buy online go with jakewilson.com or denniskirk(they will match prices), as for locally call Hunts Hog shop in Lansing they did me right for a set of MC ll's, as far as local harley dealer's you'll probably get your best price at Brighton HD, they advertise best price on Dunlops.

The front is at 4/32 and the rear is at 3/32 right in the center of the tire. Extending outwards there is much more tread on both tires. The wear pattern is excellent no weird cupping or un roundness going on. My question is should I replace the tires before I go on the trip or finish using them up. Its not the rainy season yet so If I did get caught up in rain I could probably just wait it out. The tires still seem to be handling good.
Your tires, your life.
You only have two tires, not like a car.

The idea of "not a rainy season" is not a reason.
Who knows what kind of weather you'll run into on the road?
In rain, I want plenty of rubber.
Myself..... I'd have new tires for the trip.
You'll need them eventually.
I had a friend who lost his life because he could get "so many miles from his tires." Didn't work for him.

There is PLENTY of usable life left in that tire, period. 2000 plus for sure....that tire looks like a D407 or whatever the newer Dunlops are....$150 for the Indy to take of the bike re install is not that out of whack .... Little high but not that far off...the next time you will probably only need a rear . The front should last you a while, he'll I go through 3 or 4 fronts to a rear with Elite III .
My suggestion is by a jack, a manual and take the wheel off yourself. Do y have a cycle gear? Check with them.
Bottom line, even if you are going on a trip don't throw away a good tire... Looks to he like there is about another 5000 miles left on that tire.

Went to Hunts today they quoted me 120 to mount and balance which is the best labor rate so far.

206 plus tax for the rear Commander II
165 plus tax for the front Commander II

Total $513.26 out the door which is not bad

Brighton HD wants $396.00 out the door for the Dunlop HD 408 which makes it a no brainer to go with the Commander II that should easily get 5000k more of tread life for $100 bucks more.

Now, I gotta decide if I want to learn how to just do it myself and buy from Jakewilson for 288.98 and then pay someone to mount and balance for 40.00 I am very mechanically inclined and I do own a jack just not a good one. I'm thinking if I strap it down good that I should be okay. I got the manual and have watched a few you tube videos. I like doing my own work and have done everything myself so far.

I think I should just dive into it and get over my fear of removing the tires. Once done it will save me more $$$ in the long run. More than enough to buy a good jack. And if I do I can more than afford to change tires before they hit the wear bars.

I can see maybe a 1000 miles on the rear before it hits the wear bar and for sure lots more left in the front. I agree I need to learn how to R&R my own wheels, for sure will save $$$ down the road and I also enjoy working on my own stuff.
