Default Mileage Front Tire?

2012 Trike and just turned 9000 miles. Looking through the posts and most say they get 15000-18000 miles on front tire. I barely passed inspection. I keep the air to the recommended pressure and never carry much weight. Anyone else having to change the front this early?

Mileage can also be affected by the type of riding you do. If you ride a lot of city with constant turns or a lot of cornering, it'll make the tire wear quicker.

I also have a 2012 TriGlide. I currently have 21,562 miles on the front tire and it still passes state inspection. I'll admit that the tread is getting down, though, and I plan to change it out this summer sometime. 9000 miles sounds like not many miles on a front tire. I think that I would begin by looking for a problem that could be the cause. Are your brakes dragging? Have you got a wheel bearing that isn't turning freely? Do you have a misalignment? Do you use your front brake more than the rear? Maybe you could get some clues from the wear pattern that has developed on the tire. Sorry I can't help you more. Maybe you could show us a picture of the tread and somebody will have an idea.

On our 2014 had to replace the tire at 10,600 miles, it was almost down to the wear bar. Talked to several other 14 owners both here and around the area they all are getting around the same front tire mileage.New front OEM tire has 5/32 the last two you can't use. The older trikes do get more front tire mileage. I went the route of mounting a rear motorcycle tire backwards on the front. American Elite 11/32's new plus duel compound hope to double tire mileage.

Default Front tire

I have a 2013 TG and have replaced the front tire twice. First was at 11, 400, second was almost exactly the same mileage at 22, 900. Always kept the pressure at 36. City driving to work and back Monday - Friday, with an occasional evening jaunt. Hit the highways on the weekends. I'll confess to being a little heavy on the front brake. Always have been even on the two wheelers. Most of the guys I ride with are getting comparable mileages. Should also throw in a side note that a lot of Oklahoma streets and highways leave a little to be desired, especially after a cold and wet winter!

I usually get around 20,000 miles out of my front tires. That is what I have gotten since 2008 on two different trikes. That is with the original Dunlop tire as well as Michelin Commander II and two IRC 920 Wild Flare tires. I put 40,000 miles on the rears also. Good Luck.

I barely managed to get 10,000 miles out of the first Dunlop tire. After the same mileage on the second one I switched to the Commander 2 and got 21,000 out of the first one and it looks like I will get the same out of the second one. I do a lot of two lane curvy roads and ride pretty hard in the curves. I use both brakes and have 53,500 miles on the rear tires with 5/32 left on the tread. I think the Dunlop is just not a good tire for the front. I have always used 36 psi in the front and 26 in the rear. And 99% of my riding has been 2 up.

We usually take mostly back roads and very seldom to I have a passenger and I think I use both brakes evenly but I may favor the front a tad more. Last year I noticed one of the bolts was missing on the welment engine strap and wondered if that had been missing from year one when they replaced the handlebars or if it recently fell off. I didn't notice any riding difference and only noticed the missing bolt when I was cleaning the bike. Could that have caused tire wear?? photo of the engine strap and the tire.

I can't think of why a missing engine mount bolt would cause extra wear.

Wear on the front tire (assuming correct PSI) is about how fast turns are taken & road surface. I've gotten as little as 10k miles and as much as 20K miles out of a front tire.

One weekend in the Ozarks I took a full half of the tread off a front tire in about 1000 miles.

Because the TG does not lean, when going around a corner at any significant speed on a TG, it is just shaving rubber off the tire.
