Default Decatted header problem long story and lesson learned

I have a 2013 Triglide. I bought a decatted header on eBay last week and went to my buddy's house yesterday to have a few things done, using his floor lift, jack stands etc... He's a very skilled motorcycle mechanic and has all the tools and equipment needed for heaving duty work.

We started with a K&N air cleaner kit (Stage 1), then installed the T-Glide Stuff 1.25-2 combo lift kit and Progressive 440 rear shocks.
Everything went well. The trike looks MUCH better with the lift kit. I didn't event take it for a spin to check the difference but I'm sure I'll be pleased with the results.

Then, on to replacing the header by the decatted one. As soon we took the stock header off and compared it to the decatted one I bought, we realized the problem. The stock header right pipe is much longer than the decatted one. I should have known that and bought the trike adapter pipe that several vendors sell online, but I thought the adapter pipe for trike was also what Harley was using at the factory, so that they would only make 1 header for all touring models instead of one for the 2 wheelers and one for the 3 wheelers.

Nope, the one for the 3 wheelers is one piece all the way from the header to the right muffler.

So, on to plan B. I need the bike done before next weekend due to a 2 days trip so I wasn't sure I would receive the adapter fast enough to have it done so we decided to decat the stock header. My buddy will do that today at work. He has the welding equipment needed and I'll pick up the bike tonight at his place, with the header replaced and FL-ViED installed. He'll test the whole thing on the road and tweek the FL-ViED to make sure there's no popping and the trike runs smoothly and cooler.

So, whoever plans to replace the stock header by a decatted one bought on eBay, keep in mind that a decatted stock touring header will not work on a Triglide unless you also buy the adapter piece.

Lesson learned.

By the way, I have now a Touring decatted header for sale. Bought it last week, took it out of the box and put it back in.

I'll list it in the for sale section.

Yes, it's for a 103ci motor with the 2 x 12mm O2 sensor bungs at the bottom of the header.
Here is the link to the eBay merchant I bought it from. It says for 2010-2016 Touring bikes so I assume it will work.

I found several like that when I was looking. When I purchased, I had the seller confirm it was the same HD part number as mine. He too had both versions for sale.

It's my fault. I thought the Triglide stock header was the same as the Touring model and it had the trike adapter that could be reused so I didn't check with the vendor.

I decatted the header on my '13 Ultra Limited and used it on my '16 Tri Glide. It bolted right up.

Yep I had a header from my 14 limited. I decatted it . When I went to change it out onto the 13 triglide found the difference. Luck for my the Harley dealer had an V& H kit in stock. It actually makes putting the new slip on a little easier to put back on .

Without the trike adapter or with it?

From the looks at that pic, my'16 already had one of those on the right side. All I had to do is slide the right side muffler back then switch the headers. I didn't add anything else to it. Putting the two headers side by side they were an exact match. Same part number too.

I had a de-cat headeron my 2011 Ultra Limited that switched to my 2016 TriGlide. I think the Rt muffler has about an 8" extension on it, but the headers are exactly the same shape and length. Not sure why you had trouble with the 2014 trike.
