Default Clutch lever adjustment.

I recently had a full service on my '20 Freewheeler. I noticed that the clutch was grabbing very close to the hand grip after my trike was returned. I assume this was adjusted as part of the service. I don't mind driving this way but I was also fine having some play before the clutch engaged. Yesterday, when I went for a ride I didn't have any play in the clutch. When the lever was fully squeezed to the hand grip, the trike would want to creep ahead. Shifting was hard. I know this isn't right but I'm curious how this would change on it's own? I have about 50 miles of riding since this recent service. I'm going to phone the shop when it opens but wondering if this is a big deal or a simple DIY adjustment?

Clutch friction discs and steels heat up and expand.
Adjustments are different for each rider.
I frequently readjust mine after another tech has set it to his liking.

There should be 1/16" to 1/8" free play at the lever when adjusted correctly.
If you do it yourself, start with 1/16" play, and if you like the engagement, leave it.
If not, go a little closer to 1/8".
I leave mine at 1/16", and I like it.
Everyone has there own 'sweet spot'.

I have a call into the shop and the service manager said there is no adjustment for a hydraulic clutch. However, he'll check with his technician and call me back. This is a popular motorcycle repair shop but isn't a Harley Davidson facility. I am hoping to hear back that the service manager was mistaken and there is a simple and obvious fix.. They did change the clutch and brake fluids when they serviced my trike and the point of clutch engagement changed significantly. The fact that in less than 80 miles of riding the clutch now doesn't fully disengage when the lever hits the grip is unacceptable.

First mention of “hydraulic” clutch setup.

This is why I prefer cables. 😉

I bought my 19 Tri Glide new in August of 18. Currently have 40,000 miles on it and have never had a clutch problem. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I have it flushed every two, two and a half years when the dealer does the ABS flush. As a matter of fact I'm taking it in tomorrow to have that done.. I love the fluid clutch. Never had a problem, easy pull and always works great.

^^^ This^^^ Make sure they used the best high temp DOT fluid and all the air is out of the system. Just a tiny little air bubble will cause the condition you described. Also hae them check the moisture level in the clutch fluid reservoir because the fluid they used might have had some moisture in it, a high moisture content (above 1%) will do the same thing as a little air in the system.
