Been trolling too long!
Anyway - I know everyone has a favorite(which is probably the one they ride) but I'd like some insight in to why you guys selected the model that you did..why did you go AW over DX or why did you wait for a Muscle instead of getting a great deal on a standard...stuff like that!
Anyone wanna comment on why they picked one V over another? All input welcomed...
I'm new here myself and just went through some of what your looking at.. so my .02
First as for what Model vs an other... well it has to be which one (or ones) that speak to your soul lol.. For me it was the F (Muscle) and DX (NightRod Special).
I am not sure if you are only looking at new or newsed as well... if only New, well again to the one that calls to you, you will know when it happens.
If you are looking for a bike in General, I suggest an 08+
Slipper Clutch on these, larger fuel tanks,ABS and Security Options(ABS was a must for me) larger engine add up to worth it..
Yes, any of the earlier bikes are great bikes and you can add any and all of the upgrades to them... but the 08+ bikes are already done for you and so less mod time and more ride time.
Now... for the Why part.. I was in love with the Muscle and the NightRod Special..
well, I "Know" me.. I would get into the Mod and more chrome and.. and... game
The DX is sleek and you don't go the route of the chrome game, instead you go the blackout game, but that list is smaller! lol
Again, just my .02

I'm getting mine for the purpose of doing longer rides with the fiance and have more comfort than the sporty. I have the corbin seat for it and plan on putting the corbin fleetliner bags on along with a batwing of some make.
I also don't care for the looks of the blacked out bikes which takes the dx out of the equation.
If you want abs you need an 08 or newer. Doing it after the fact is not feasible. You cannot do it on the earlier bikes without it costing you more than it would to get a bike with it installed already.
Unfortunately for the vrod the info here is limited, although a good group. 1130cc.com is the end all be all for info on the vrods.

The main difference in vrod models would be color choices and seating position. Choose the model that you like the looks of, and feels good. If you are looking at an F, or a DX, they have a very different feel. The performance is really not that different between the models.
Why didn't I get...?
...the Muscle is pretty cool looking, but the smaller front fender has been cause of a messy ride unless you have a windshield (as I was told by a former Muscle owner). Personally, the seat is one of the most uncomfortable seats out there. It's like sitting on a 2x12 plank to me. Ride position is not bad at all though and the rear fender is really cool looking.
...FX or B... ...because I'm not a huge fan of the 'blacked out' look on these bikes. I do like the black out like on the Iron, Nightster, 48 and even Muscle, but on the non-muscle VRSC's, I'm not a fan.
Now for why I chose mine:
To me, the best part of this bike is it's technology/performance and most of all it's style. What makes this one stand out from all the rest is it's frame. Find me another non-crotch-rocket that has an exo like this one does. Ok, true the Hyosung GV650 tried to copy the V, it just doesn't have the soul that this one does. 'Zuki made something good, but not as good.
The frame being black is why I'm not a fan (as much) of the Night-Rod's and B frames. Even the orange screamin eagle looks kinda off for me. The Muscle covers up most of the frame and add's choppy looks which would detract from the flowing frame. ...It's basically made to look like it's not even using the same frame (although we know it is).
Then it's the option of what year A to get. I love the look of the 100th aniversary's and the early models with the blanks for wheels. ...but being a newb on a bike, I had to head the warnings of more noticeable crosswinds on the highway with the full blanks. Then there's also the issue of the tiny capacity tanks on the early ones. ...and the 180 out back.
To me, the AW takes the best model (the A) and makes it better with ABS (optional), a 240, a 5-Gal tank, and the larger 1250.
That's my 2 cents.
I've sorta been at odds styling wise between the Muscle and the NRS....although I "like" the way the Muscle looks, I LOVE the DX..very dark and sinister...
There's one cruising around here in town and it's been stuck in my head since before I tested the one last weekend. I was getting out of my vehicle at this strip mall and I heard this AWESOME loud growl coming from a vehicle on the road...I looked out there and this guy went smokin' by on a DX...and all I could think was THAT is a bike! Listening to a V-Rod idle, you'd almost never believe it could sound that way, but there it went...obviously not stock exhaust but still, sounded and looked awesome on the road!

Mike,
The D (what sveinn and I ride) and the R are the only models so far with mid controls. I like mids. The D also has highway pegs. They come in handy. The DX has forward controls and drag bars. Not comfy for most people. Ohter than that, the differences in the rest are tire widths and engine sizes.
