2009 Leftover Price?
Hey everyone, I'm looking to get out of my kawi rocket and get a harley. I found a dealer with 2 2009 V-Rod Muscles in stock. What kind of asking price should I start at, since they are asking me what I'm looking to spend.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Never give a single dollar amount on what you're looking to spend. Give a range instead. For example $10-$14K. Always keep it lower than what you really want to spend. This way you have a little wiggle room for negotiation.
V-Rods seem to depreciate at around 10% per year. I've been looking at a leftover '07 Night Rod. Street value (KBB and NADA) is around $10.5k, and a wholesale around $7.5k. I know, as they are talking about used bikes, that doesn't apply directly to a new leftover model, but it does have some bearing, particularly when it comes to financing and insurance.
In my case, on the '07 Night Rod, the dealer opened the conversation by stating that they'd already discounted the bike to $16.2k (which meant they took out the shipping, etc.). To me the bike is worth about $12k (less later in the month when the 2011s are introduced), given it still has a 2-year warranty. All to say, we're too far apart to make anything happen, and so the bike will continue to occupy its spot on that dealer's floor (where it's already been for three years).
In the OP's case, they might want to figure out what the bike is worth to them and stick to that price. If the dealer wants to accept, fine; if not, walk away.
I know dealers have to cover their costs, but on leftover bikes I think they could be more willing to deal, as auto dealers do. In my business, I've always operated by the notion that some significant percentage of something is better than one hundred percent of nothing. But then, this is Harley we're talking about, and they must not give incentives to dealers to move leftover stock.

I just got a 09, 0 miles, flame blue with security for $13,200.00. This was not with a trade in. Trade-in will make the price go up because they dont want your bike. Then of course after tax title and plate or OTD was $14,182.
