I am going to do a class at the Harley dealer in town for a class and have never been on a motorbike and I have always wanted an vrod muscle but I also want a sportster 1200 nightster but I'm not sure what I should get to start out on and most the roads I ride on is country roads with a few trips on the highway for about 4 hours tops and I have been told good and bad of both like the sportster is better on country roads but the vrod is smother in the gears with lower torque in low rpms tell u get over 5000 and the sportster is the other way around so I just need some help picking a bike and I am still going to try to ride them both first but just want some outside input
I can not believe you are comparing a sportster to a vrod. IMO the only thing you can compare about the 2 are they both have 2 tires! The Vrod will win in every thing except maybe MPG. The Vrod is different and may take a little to get used to, but I have been on many different bikes and none... NONE have ever come close the the current VROD muscle I currently have. Go over to 1130cc.com and do some reading. You will find a lot more information about the VRODs there then you will here.
There is always things u can compare like u have comfort for long trips or for short how they handle on types of roads and weather what has better real sale value cheaper to maintain which has longer lasting parts motors craftsmanship on the overall bike what would be more fun overall to ride every day tire wear yea I will Amit in a sec the vrod will beat a sportster every time on speed and hp they were made to when Harley put that big motor in it but speed ant everything or at least not to me as long as both will run the speed limit on a highway and I know they will

Comfort for long trips...VROD
Resale value...Vrod
More fun...Vrod
longevity...VROD the moter is built to last...
My point comparing the VROD to other Harleys is like comparing a Subura Brat to a Chevy Duramax truck. Yes they are both trucks and they will do somethings the same. But no where close to the same.
Maybe consider a V Rod or a Dyna, but Sportster as a last choice. If you decide on a V Rod, try to find a preowned low mile one, they can be found pretty cheap. The Dyna's are a good value and good bike to start your riding adventure.
