I bought a 883L for my 1st bike and was needing help with a tool list. I would like to do maintenance like fluid changes, clutch and cable adj, and other minor-moderate repairs. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
welcome from north carolina, get yourself some good hand tools, wrenches, sockets, allan wrenches and a good set of torx. After you get started working on your bike you can add to your collection.
Thanks. I have most of the sockets and boxed-open wrenches already and figured I would need a set of hex and torx sockets. I believe I need to get a spanner wrench for shock adjustment. Can anyone think of other tools I would need?
If your planning on doing fluid changes an oil filter wrench, I'd recommend the cup style that goes on a ratchet. A lift is always a great thing to have too.
If you don't have a service manual yet, get one, you can do a whole lotta checks with a 6 or 8 inch cresent and a set of allens. If its loose, slap some thread locker on it. Had my bike come out of the dealer and the rear axle nut was loose. Just do the once over on the big stuff that left unattended could make for a bad day. Put a wrench on it, if it turns easy, its not tight, don't really want to get into torque specs, but not too hard to tell when something is loose. BTW, welcome to the forum.
