New to me 1997 FLSTC. Had it two months. It had about 49k miles when I bought it and I've put about 700 on it. It seems to need some oil as the oil on the dipstick is right at the lower mark.
I've been told not to convert from dino oil to synthetic due to possible leaking since the rings and everything are already use to the dino oil.
My questions are -
1. What do you think about converting to synthetic in the engine at this point because of the high miles and all.
2. What do you think about converting to synthetic in the primary?
3. What do you think about converting to synthetic in the transmission?
I feel the situation is different in the engine then it would be in the primary and transmission.
As best I can tell the Heritage as an oil cooler, S & S Super Carb, maybe a cam as it lopes when idling.
It runs well but is using oil. When I first got it the oil level was a little below the high mark on the dip stick. Now the oil level is just above the lower mark on the dip stick. I havn't had a first oil change yet so I really don't know how much oil it's using.
The plugs look ok and there isn't any smoke when i start it up or running. There's no oil leaks on the ground when it's parked and I haven't noticed any oil smell at all.
I believe some oil usage is ok but not sure about this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I know a lot of questions so please be patient with me and Thanks
