I'm building a 1981 xlch chopper and I want to put a springer front end on it . everyone keeps saying that I can't use my stock front rim and that I have to get a wide glide front rim. What's the difference between them ? Any help is appreciated
How about finding a springer front end and then answering your question?! The size and width of wheel HUB you need is entirely down to the forks you use. IMHO if you find a fork intended for a Sporty it is more likely to accept a Sporty wheel. The Wide Glide is a big twin and comes with - wide spaced forks! There are at least three different widths of hub AFAIK, but I suggest you look around for forks suitable for your bike, when the type of wheel you need should become clear.
super duper +1 mr. brown
plan of attack on paper before attack by the seat of your pants.
i am about 10 yrs earlier but sportster rims fit the springers back then. but as mr. brown mentioned, depend upon the look you want.
rake or no rake??? springers not setup right can get scary down the road, ever rode a pogo stick.
