Default New Bluetooth/ Wireless Intercom Helmet Adapter ~$200

This is our first post as a vendor so let us know if there is anything we need to change.
The Cardo Scala Rider Bluetooth setup is now available from Benchmark Helmets and it’s retailer network. This is a unique new product that allows the rider to make and receive calls via the Bluetooth connection. You will never have to take your hands off your handlebars to make or receive calls (outgoing “hands free” calling requires phone that supports voice commands . The greatest feature of the Rider Teamset is the ability to wirelessly communicate with your passenger (which does not require Bluetooth for the intercom). The wind resistant mic is good to about 65-70 with an open face helmet or as fast as you can go with a full face. Get the most out of your new navigation/GPS system. No more taps on the helmet or turning around to communicate with your passenger. Also there is no external unit required for the Teamset intercom function, just charge it up, snap the modules in place and you are ready to communicate wirelessly with your passengers.

Benchmark helmets has a special offer for hdforums ladies and gentlemen. When 5 members are ready to place an order they will receive 10% off the retail price and free shipping (which should be around 208 to your doors). We are located in Southern California so keep in mind that it will take about 3 days to get to the East Coast. Visit our website at www.benchmarkhelmets.com or our webstore at www.benchmarkstore.com. Our toll free number is 866-622-0221.

For the group buy you can e-mail us or we can create a coupon code to identify the hdforums people.

Hey guys/gals...

I have been riding my SE Ultra Classic with the FD bluetooth and intercom for over a year now. Since the wife rides with me I use the intercomm a lot (and the phone as little as possible). She got me a 1200 Sporty for XMas to go along with the Ultra so I figure the least I can do in the way of thanks is to talk to her when we take the sporty out.

I have searched the forums for info/reviews on the Scala rider and they are few and far between. My Sporty is on the loud side since I installed some V&H Straightshots and I ride with a full face, the wife with a 3/4. I am really interested in the functionality of the Scala Rider such as:
Do you have to do anything to switch from intercom to bluetooth mode?
Does the intercomm and BT work on the same freq?
Is the intercom VOX actuated or do you have to switch it on/off?
Do I need to install a "charging station" on the bike.
Etc.

I think what might be really helpful is for you to post the install/usage instructions for the Scala Rider on your site. Any additional info you can provide would also be very appreciated.

Thanks

Crazie,

That is a cool looking helmet BTW. I wish I could say I got I Christmas present as sweet as yours. There are not a lot of quality reviews on the product out there. There is one done by a scooter guy http://thescooterscoop.blogspot.com/...fm-review.html here, but that is for the FM Unit. To address your questions on the product, the unit can be switched easily from intercom to bluetooth mode with the touch of a button on the side. I think if you watch the review above it does a good job of describing the ergonomics of the unit. The units noise cancelling mic works with every Harley we've tested ( a 140hp panhead test is still pending)

The intercom and bluetooth, the unit uses a single chip to control the calls and is on a high frequncy band, although I've never heard about any interference issues. (more info on that is here http://www.nvlsi.no/index.cfm?obj=do...ay&doc=277). It is VOX controlled so when you are in intercom mode if you or your passenger start talking then the unit starts your conversation, stop talking and its over, same for cell calls. The charging of the unit is done off the bike and their are no wires involved while riding. The unit will give you 7 hours of talk time and 7 days of standby time on a full charge. We have a copy of the manual at our website http://www.benchmarkhelmets.com/card...20teamset.html under owners manual.

All in all we hope that dealers will start taking more to this product as I know a lot of people from this forum are back east and would like to check out either the Scala Rider or MOMO Helmets in person. Until our distribution network is set up you can check out our stuff on our web store. Or you can always give us a call 866-622-0221

Thanks for the excellent reply. I did indeed go up and look at the user manual and I must admit I'm intrigued. I do business with 4 different HD dealers up here and the most sophisticated intercom unit the offer is the Chatterbox. I really like the idea of a totally wireless, no-install bluetooth solution. Too bad you don't offer a trial period as you try to establish yourself in this market.

I think I'll noodle this for a bit but in all likelihood will give the unit a try and, of course, post my experiences up here like I did with the J&M vs Harley headset issue. Anyone else out there game to try this thing out? Maybe we can get enought of us together to get a discount. If so, please PM me.

Thanks on the helmet. I have to admit that the helmet gets more comments than does the bike especially when the wife is with me wearing hers too. I went much more conservative for the Sporty - plain old boring black.

Stay Safe

Any idea if this can be used for close distance bike to bike?

I recently purchased the Cardo Scala Rider Bluetoothheadset/mic and I tried attaching it to my half-helmet. It is a little difficult to get the clamp in between the shell and the padding because the padding is not as "giving" as it is on my 3/4 helmet. When I did get it attached to my half-helmet, the mic is not close enough to the corner of my mouth. I attached the earpiece to the inside of the strap closest to my ear. I did not give it a test run while it was attached to the half-helmet though because I decided to attach it to my 3/4 helmet. It is a better fit, the mic is closer to the corner of my mouth and the earpiece sits in the "earwell" of my helmet. I went out for a ride and made a call. I liked how I could adjust the volume and I could hear the other person just fine while I was riding at 60-65mph (I have a windshield on my bike though). The other person could hear me but said they could also hear the wind, but they were able to understand me.

All-in-all, I like the product. I just wish the mic cord was a tad bit longer.

Thanks for the review, HeratigeBrian. That helps. Just curious, how loud is your bike? You running stock pipes or something louder? The pipes on my Sporty are pretty loud and combined with no windshield (altho I use a full face helmet but wife wears 3/4) might be an issue.

I've got Vance & Hines Big Shots Staggered with stock baffles. It's loud. The 1st time I tried the headset on my 3/4 helmet, I turned the volume up on the earpiece all the way. When I made a call while riding at 60mph, believe it or not, I had to turn down the volume. Weird huh? Once I adjusted the volume, it was like having the phone up to my ear while riding.

Anyone tried what I'm asking? Bike to bike within 100'?
I'm looking for a solution for bike to bike that is as inexpensive as possible. Voice dialing isn't an option, as most places I need it don't have cell coverage.

Thanks,

If 100' is your criteria, it won't work. Bluetooth, as spec'ed, maxes out at about 30' at best, I believe.
