Default Handlebars... which ones?

I'm 5'8" and get some shoulder and back pain on my 35 minute ride to work so I was thinking of getting new handlebars that would bring the controls closer to me. I thought of the pullback handlebars, but I like the look of the mini-apes. Which handlebars will get the controls a little closer to me, longhorn, buckhorn, miniapes or do I have to go with pullbacks?
Thanks

I used the apes for my bad back. They work perfect.

Here is a link to a sporty with Road King bars. Worked out pretty well for my wife.

If the above doesn't work, do a name search for Shooter in the photo sectionl

I put the longhorns on mine, big help with lower back problems. Link to see them on.... https://www.hdforums.com/photo.asp?p...type=6&apage=1 . I'll have better pics up later today in my gallery. The bars in my sig are the buckhorns.

I'm quite a bit smaller than you (5'4") and I had similar problems--shoulder and neck issues. Went with HD pullbacks on my 1200 Custom. They do help with the actual "pull back" (an inch or so) but they're wider than the stock bars, and since I don't have a windshield, I feel like a human sail at speeds over about 60. If I had a) an extra couple hundred or b) plenty of extra free time, I'd go with buckhorns probably, but the pullbacks have to do for now.

I know the exact problem you're talking about - at 5'6", anything more than 30 mins on the bike and you start feeling like a hunchback? I like buckhorns for a more "natural" sitting posture (i.e., like you'd sit in a car seat, at least if you have forward controls). However, some folks don't like the arm/wrist position buckhorns give you and find it uncomfortable, so you might be trading one problem for another. It works for me and for lots of others with stumpy arms. I'd second that you get a windshield, too.

My wife got info from someone else that has an '04 that went with 6 1/2" risers for the stock bars and was very happy with them. The wife just got hers today, but we haven't had time to install.

I actually found the buckhorns to be very comfortable while riding, they just looked to narrow with the bigger tank on my bike IMHO.
