Need to hear from those that have Lost your Battery Cover
Well, it finally happened......
I thought after the 4th replacement of the stupid little plastic clips that hold the battery cover the MoCo had FINALLY gotten it right.
AND I WAS WRONG!!!
This time, not only did it fall down, it fell off the bike. I know this has happened to many of you. I'm interested to know what kind of static the dealership gave you about replacing the cover under warranty.
They WILL replace this under warranty, and the chrome wing cover that was attached. I'm just curious to the amout of Hell I'm going to be required to raise before they honor their warranty.
RE: Need to hear from those that have Lost your Battery Cover
I can't believe that the cover just fell off,but I do believe you, mine I have to really yank on it to get it off. I wonder if those plastic clips were off size? Hope they replace it for you but I think that they will argue that you didn't snap it on tight enough. Mine is hanging there while the battery tender is connected I will have to take a look and see what has to come off or break inorder to loose it.
RE: Need to hear from those that have Lost your Battery Cover
I just said F it and bought the color-matched covers. I've got them secured now where it won't come off. Drill a small hole down the center of the clip. Drill the hole so that the hole extends down through the opening hole of the sidecover. Then, I just put a zip tie down through the hole which acts as a deadbolt where it can't come off. For extra piece of mind you could completely zip tie it on there, but it's not necessary. Good luck w/ HD. I know it's irritating that you can't drive the bike down the road without parts falling off. At least it gives Honda riders a good laugh. [:@]
RE: Need to hear from those that have Lost your Battery Cover
I have heard of this as a common occurance, but to tell you the truth I have never had a problem with my battery cover. My bike is an 05 XL1200C. And living in chicago it doesn't exactly travel over kind roads. I have taken it over speed bumps and crappy pavement at 80-90 mph and never had a problem. I do sympathize with those that had them fall off as they aren't exactly cheap.
Zip tie the next one like XL OCD suggested and you should be fine.

Hey Now!!!
I have a Patent on that procedure, so you will be hearing from my attorney...
LoL... Just Kidding, but even though my covers were on pretty tight I did the 'drill the hole trick' just to make sure they stay where they belong...

So it's YOURfault!!! Harley has been wanting to issue clips designed like this but somebody went out and put a patent on the design and now we're all stuck with flying sidecovers! [:@]
Just kidding, I knew I heard that somewhere... if it was you, thanks for the tip. It works good! [sm=goodidea.gif]

I couldn't believe others when I heard theircover fell completely off either. Mine had "flopped" down on several occasions. Thus, the 4 replacements of those clips.
Trust me, once the MoCo replaces the cover, and that attached MoCo accessory. It WILL NEVER FALL OFF AGAIN!!!
If HD can't figure out how to attach a simple battery cover...I think a poooor dumb ole redneck from TN can.!!
Maybe we should all apply for quality control jobs in Milwaukee??......Nah...I do enjoy Milwaukee, will be there next week for a couple of days...but I DON'T wanna live there.

Tom
They WILL replace it for me. My question from the post was just how much HELL I'm gonna have to raise. I'm really not anticipating too much of a problem here.
I'm mostly just pissed off.I have a Patriot Guard Mission tomorrow afternoon. Possibility of rain, not sure I want to ride the bike in the rain without the battery cover in place.
If they don't have a cover in stock, I'm planning on asking them, and possibly demanding, they take one off of one of the bikes they have to sell. I've helped this dealership sell Sportsters in the last few months...I can also reverse my attitude...
RE: Need to hear from those that have Lost your Battery Cover
I didn't lose my cover, but I did notice it dangling there while I was cruising down the freeway[:@]. I just laid a piece of un-cheap electrical tape across the top of the cover and clips; it's been holding without any trouble since. Ain't right, though; that problem needs to be addressed by Big Daddy Harley pronto, if not sooner. Good luck with your repair, I may try it myself.
