RE: Need to hear from those that have Lost your Battery Cover
Mine started dangling off just over 300 miles. Bike wasn't even broken in yet and stuff is falling off lol... I poped it back in and nothing yet (550). Now that its broken in it'l prolly unclip again eventually. Gonna try ziptieing it on tonight just to make sure.
RE: Need to hear from those that have Lost your Battery Cover
My cover fell on the maiden trip home from the dealer. It was "fixed" the same day (warranty) and started to come off again. I discovered that the clips that hold the cover on are VERY (nearly impossible) to get on completely. Once on right, my cover is as solid as a rock, and comes off only when I want it off. I used punch on one side (pushing) and vice grips (pulling) to get the clips on right. I doubt if the factory nor the dealer had checked to ensure these were on right. If so, the cover will not come off.
RE: Need to hear from those that have Lost your Battery Cover
the replacement clips are grey and you can install them with out a bunch of effort if you put the front part of the clip in and then roll the back up and in. I noticed mine flopping in the breese and zip tied it to the bike until I could get a replacement clip. I wasnt so lucky with the air cleaner cover it departed at 80mph bruised my shin and then got truck pressed on the interstate.
I failed to remember lock tite is our friend.
RE: Need to hear from those that have Lost your Battery Cover
Mine fell off a few times now starting from around the 2nd day of ownership. The first occurance it fell off without me ever going into battery cover. Ive dropped it in the parking lot once or twice. Because the gray clip was caught up in the frame, the dealer I purchased from just put the original back in .. it fell out again and again.. They told me that it was a wear and tear item and would cost me $8 bucks. The last time it fell off I lost the clip and thought "phuque it" and just used a wire wrap. I brought the bike to a different dealer for warranty work and they noticed I was using tie wraps and put another clip on for nothing. So at least this far Davis HD gets an atta boy and Ray Price gets a "no warm and fuzzy for the Preferred Customer". Real cheap crappy design.....
Hey Heather how does the chrome cover attach ? They arent all that expensive and Im willing to spend the money to not have to deal with this any longer.

If I may, the chrome covers are replacements. Take the stock one off, and put the chrome one in it's place. Or, just hit a bump and it will come off on it's own.
RE: Need to hear from those that have Lost your Battery Cover
Yeah, the chrome covers, and even the 'color matched' covers are nothing more than fancy replacement for the stock black covers.
They attach exactly the same way as the stock covers, so they also need to have my "patented drill procedure" completed to make they stay in place. [8D]
RE: Need to hear from those that have Lost your Battery Cover
lost mine twice now..the strange thing about it is--both times i was on the same street within a mile..the second time it got some scratches on the chrome..its not all that noticeable though..they really need to find a better way to fasten them..
