Default Raingear anyone?

I'm ready to buy some rain gear and wondering if Harley makes the best ones, or whether I should spring the dough for Gore-Tex etc.

Just want to stay dry and have a quality pair that looks 1/2 way decent.

Thanks in advance for your guidance

My wife and I deceided on the HD GORTEX. Pricey, but very comfortable and heavy duty. Doesn't feel like you are in a plastic bag after several hours. The GORTEX keeps you very dry from the rain and from sweating, it breathes! And it is hot exhaust proof. Also does a good job of blocking the wind on a cold rainy day.

We have HD's top of the line rainsuit, gators, and waterproof gloves. The whole package will fit in a saddlebag with room left over. This is quality stuff that keeps you dry, and is lined and wicks away moisture so there is not the rubber sauna effect. I have had the suit since 1998 and it has served me well. I keep it on the bike all the times.

We have often used the suits when it wasn't raining as a wind break, and an added layer for warmth.

Regards,

Bill

I have the "Overpass" rainsuite from HD. It has kept me dry in some down pours. Medium price and good quality IMHO.

I use the two piece packable suit from HD. It will pack into the removable hood for storage. Great suit, has vents for air flow, reflective back and heat proof legs. About $130. HD has a cheaper version for $99. but it has been known to leak.

The cheap set from Harley works great for me. Funtional, no frills or pockets and packs reasonably small. Get them 20% off from one of the internet discounter. Had Frog Toggs till I burned the leg on the exhaust. Toggs also flapped around a lot on my neck. HD velcos tight, so there is no wind flap.

I went with the Frogg Toggs. But it depends on your climate really. Here in NW Florida, where it seems to rain everyday in the summer, anything that is not light weight and breathable will make you sweat to death before the rain stops. Picked mine up at Bass Pro.

Originally, both hubby and I purchased the cheepie rainsuits for riding. He wrecked his the 1st year (burned an big hole in the leg on his exaust pipe) and I managed to keep mine for 2 seasons. Finally broke down last summer and bought a good set (jacket and pants). Although it doesn't say "Gortex" on it, it is an HD product, but I don't know if it's Gortex or not. Definately a better quality. I can use the jacket as a regular windbreaker for daily wear because it is really a nice looking jacket. I can also use it, of course, as a wind and rain suit when I am riding my bike. Pants have a burn shield on the inside leg so it won't burn on my exaust pipe. Gotta love that!

Well worth the money.
