21" Rim on Streetbob - questions
1) looking at ebay do I need to look for specific models ? to fit the dyna?
2) what Tire size ?
3) Will it now Hug the Stock fender to give it a better look, or do i still need to move
the fender? (I want the fender much closer to the tire, stock looks horrible).
Thanks...
Whatever you see and are thinking of buying, make sure of the following:
Is the face to face dimension of the hub the same as your present wheel?
Is the axle diameter the same as your present axle?
If the answer is no to either question, continue to look elsewhere.
You can leave the 19 inch fender in place. All that happens is the air gap above the 19 will disappear when you stick the 21 on the front. The 21 inch tire is only 1/2 inch larger than the 19. The 19 is a fatter tire than the 21, so they come out to almost the same outside diameter. This change improves the look of the whole front end....just my opinion though.
The tire size you run will be dictated by the rim size you happen to buy.
I bought an aluminum Ankrondt (21in x 2.15) rim brand new, because I like aluminum rims.
I then bought a set of polished Stainless Steel spokes and nipples from Buchanan. Again, brand new, because I like SS and will not use anything else.
Final item to buy was a used hub off Ebay because I needed a hub to spoke up for my Dyna. My bike came with a cast wheel and my preference is laced wheels.
I then built the wheel at home and it fit right on with no problems.

The hub I bought actually came off a Sportster. Here is my take on the situation concerning 21 inch wheels:
1) Most laced up ready to roll 21 inch wheels are found on the wide glides and have the wider hub.
2) The exception is the Sportster wheel. This can be found having the narrow hub. My hub came off a Sporty that had a 21 inch chrome rim.
3) The other issue besides hub width is the axle size. Anything 2003 and earlier has a 3/4 inch diameter axle and anything 2004 and newer has a 1 inch dia. axle.
4) The fender is the same for either a 21 or 19 inch wheel.
Anyone out there care to comment about the 4 statements above? If something is incorrect, let's get it corrected now.......pg
You are correct in saying you need a 1 inch axle. Also, the only model that has the narrow front end and comes with a 21 inch laced wheel that I know of is the Sportster.
Anything else will come off a Wideglide, and you cannot use that. Your hub that you have now should measure 4 1/2 inches through the axle hole. This is what you are looking for and a Sporty made in 2004 or later will be what you need.
I had a cast wheel, and after I built the 21, it slipped right into the fork legs using the same axle and spacers that came with the cast wheel.
The 19 inch is a wide fat looking tire with air space showing between the tire top and the fender edge. The 21 inch is a slicker set up.
You won't find too many Twin Cams with a narrow front end wearing a 21 inch wheel. At least I never see them. So that will make your bike a bit different from the herd.
Good luck with your search. I think it will be fairly easy to locate one that suits you. People buy new bikes and immediately start looking for accessories to hang on the machines. You know, if the Sporty came with laced wheels, gotta get cast or chrome aftermarket replacements asap! Look for that situation.
In my search I came across a number of brand new take off's that had never hit the street.........pg
