Default Forward Controls on an FL Fatboy

Well I am trying to convince myself to taking the plunge and removing my floorboards/engine guard/highway pegs and putting Accutronix's setup for forward controls. Yeah on my Fatboy 07....

First of all I do like forward controls, let's say I like them on the Deuce. I did test drive the Deuce and loved every minute of the forward controls.

Most riding I will every prob do is 350 or so miles a day, maybe 500 on the special occasion. Do you think I'd get tired of hanging my feet off the forward controls? or maybe there are some sorta pegs I could hang off the frame for a different position from time to time to relax?

The Accutronix forward controls are 1" extended more than a stock deuce setup. I am tall..6'2" so I don't think I will have much problem there. I see from another post or two people get a lot more lean angle out of a bike with forward controls. (hehe) a big help in widening that chicken strip eh? (heh)

Well anyways any comments, ideas..hints?

Anyone whose done the labor themselves? I plan too, only thing that has me a bit worried is the brake line, shouldn't be too bad.

I'll be going with the Accutronix too! They look great on Loader's sweet bike https://www.hdforums.com/m_1379390/tm.htm

Highway pegs may be necessary for long trips. Could be relaxing!

I have Accutronix 3" extended controls on my 04 Fatty. I installed them myself before I even rode the bike. The only prob I had was breaking the floorboard bolts loose, I needed a torch to heat them up. The brake line's easy, just measure and get the right one. Good luck.

Here is what I did, I got the Harley extended rider floorboards P/N 42638-03 they are for the touring modles, but they do fit any bike with "D" shaped floorboards. Then I got the Kuryakyn MK III cruiser pegs that mount to the bottom of the floorboards. They are not designed to fit the extended rider floorboards and you will have to drill new holes in the mounting plate for them to work but that really isnt a problem. Also you can only use 3 of the 4 bolts for each side. This is because of where the mounting brackets on the bottom of the new floorboards are. From start to finish with mounting the cruiser pegs it will take about 1.5 to 2.5hrs. The new floorboard pans only cost 79.95 and the cruiser pegs are 189.99. Im not sure the price of forward controls but im going to guess that this way is a little cheeper. The new floorboards will give you 2 inches farther forward and the cuiser pegs will give you 2 more options for your feet, heel on the board toe on the peg or entire foot on the peg. I really love my set up, it is much more comfortable than stock. I am 6'1 just for referance. One other thing I would recomend is getting the extended rear break pedel as well. its just a comfort and convienance thing. Hope this give you an option to keep the boards for a long haul while giving you highway pegs without the crash bars. In my sig pic you can see the set up.

Chris

I ordered them... just when will they get here, prob in a week or so. Wonder how long it will take me to put em on....

Any tips/tricks to getting the floorboards off, putting in a new brake line,or anything related to putting forward controls on?

Got a new jiffy stand too, the 07 fatty I have has a new type of mount/bolt. Besides it's part of the floorboards.

I put the HD Aeleron forward controls on my bike last year and really love them. I had to order a set of Arlen Ness 3" extensions (from Ebay) for them to be a little more comfortable for my height (5' 11"). The extensions came with a nice braided rear brake line and the correct length (15") shift linkage.

What were you thinking about for a rear brake lightswitch? Banjo or "T" ? There are no direct replacement lines for the 07's You will have to fab it.

Hmm loader? what ? please explain....

I want to be set (with all parts) before I pull my old stuff and put the forward controls on.. as its sunny and nice out. And don't want to wait another week with my bike apart.. sitting.. depressing

What did you do? No mention of a brake light switch... when I talked to Accutronix on the phone and email.

Just got a reply from Accutronix, Loader....

Accuronix said:
"That's a confusing question. The brake line "Tee" has a port in it for the stock brake light switch. If this guy did not put the stock brake light switch in this port I have no idea what he did. It may be possible that he did not use my brake line & just ran a solid line front to back with NO "Tee" in it."

So what did ya do Loader, if you dont mind me asking...
