Finally!!
Hello all,
I have been reading post on this site for the past 3 months, but didn't want to join until I was sure I was getting my new scoot. Well after 3 weeks of delays it finally looks like I might get my new FLHXI - Street Glide next week! I'll try to give you the Readers Digest version.
I live in South Florida and for the past 15 years I worked in or supported the Telecommunications Industry, specifically the cellular industry. I started out as a Cell Site Technician for Cellular One after spending 10 years in the US Air Force. Hind site being what it is I should have stayed a tech in the field instead of taking management positions. But I believe everything happens for a reason, I've been married for over 11 years now to a native Floridian (yes the do exist) and I have a great 8 year old daughter whom I'm sure will be the death of me. Earlier this year I had to layoff a someone who had been with our company for 5 years and the bottom line is that it all boiled down to money. We couldn't afford him. I don't mind laying someone off for cause; I've been called the Hatchet in some of my previous positions. I was just VERY tired of having to lay good people off because there is no business. Well, one day I received an e-mail from my local Harley Dealer saying they were looking for Sales People. I thought you know I could do a lot worse so I applied and started selling Harleys on the 1st of August. I had previous sales experience, just not retail sales experience. Is it tough, you bet? I try really hard to juggle the needs of the customer and the needs of the dealership and treat people the way I want to be treated. I had owned a 2000 Road King, screwed up and sold it to get a bigger boat (that's a whole other story) so I wasn't completely HD ignorant but as with anything in life there is an endless supply of facts and fiction. How do I like it? Come on, I stand around and talk about Harleys all day long, what can be wrong with that? Working at a Harley Dealer I can tell you it's very difficult to pick out one model and color for your main ride. I thought I wanted another Road King, say a 2003 Anniversary Edition, but after seeing the FLHX I decided that was the bike for me. Now I still plan to get a Buell XB12X Ulysses and a Thunder Mountain Blackhawk 240, but I have to sneak those in one at a time so my wife doesn't freak out. Still trying to prefect my story on how the Thunder Mountain is really hers. The biggest delay with my bike was that stupid hurricane Wilma. We were closed for a week and our shipments got all messed up. But, as long as I am riding soon it will all be okay.
I am a member of several other forms and I am always amazed at the good information posted and shared. Who knows this internet thing might actually catch on. I look forward to learning more from all of you in the future and I might be able to pass along a bit of information myself sometime.
Take care,
Dave
