The entire time I wa in Iraq, I kept dreaming of getting home, loading of the bike and taking my lovely bride to the mountains for some rest and relaxation. I have been home almost two months, and I finally got to go.
I just got back from 10 wonderful days of some of the best riding East of the Mississippi.
If you have never done it, you are really missing out. Get a cabin in Franklin or Cashiers or Highlands or Brevard etc. and you will have more great roads to ride than you will have time to ride them. We have owned our place on Lake Glennville for almost 20 years and I still find newroads to ride.
This first pic is the morning view off of my deck. Can you think of a better place to have a cup o' joe and plan a ride?
Eventually I did have to come home. My wife and son stayed in the mountains for a week to visit with my Mom, so I got to ride home instead of loading up on the trailer. This is just before you cross into GA, near Hayesville NC.
Because my regular backrest was staying with Mom, I had to improvise with luggage. It worked like a champ! I made the 600ish mile ride in about 11 hours using mainly US highways and state roads. I did do a few hours on the super-slab, but that was after I was past Atlanta. There was no way I was riding in that mess!
The Shovel ran great the whole time, 2600 miles in 10 days.
I agree, my wife and I just got rode some of the same roads last week. We left last Sunday stayed in Cruso (motorcycle campground)for 2 nights, then Robbinsville one night, then Pegion Forge for 3 nights. Riding 215, 276, 28, 64, 129 (Dragon), others, and more roads in Tennessee. We probably passed each other during the week. We talked to a lot of bikers last week every where we stopped. Great week, I hate to go back to work tomorrow.

If you ever get back to Robbinsville, make sure you check out the Sweetwater BBQ on the edge of town. It is about a block off the main drag on SR 143 (Sweetwater Rd) tucked in behind the Citgo station. It was full of locals when I was there, so you know it has to be good! The week I was there, the Honda Hoot was going on in TN and the main drag was chock full of metrics eating MickyD's...
