Default 2004-2007 5" Forward Control Extension Design

All, I have looked to extend my forward controls and found the cost of 2" and $300 to be too high. I have just extended mine 5" and am in the process of completing the drawings for others to follow. If there is interest in this I will certainly pass along my design. I bought everything I needed from McMasterCarr for around $50. I have attached my rough drawing and will get some pics of the finished mounts up soon. I rode them 300 miles this past weekend and what a difference. I hope other tall riders might find this helpful. If you can drill 3 holes and do some welding you can enjoy this bracket design. It ditches the old cast frame bracket, reusing all the pegs, brake pedals and shift pedal that came on your forward controls.

I can provide better written instruction and pics if you need them.

BTW... this mod might not work with stock pipes. I have V&H Shortshots and plenty of clearance. I'll measure against a stock pipe and let all know if they'll fit.

I'll take some pics mounted on the bike and post tonight or tomorrow. Here are some pics I took after painted.

Here are some pics of the pegs. After measuring against the wifes with stock pipes I don't think any extension would work. If you have aftermarket pipes that route behind the forward peg this will work and give you 5 inches as per my drawing.

Is there any interferance with the front tire? It appears there is with the brake pedal and the shift lever.

None at all, I have 2-3 " clearance between the rear of the fender and the pedal. Pics are deceiving...

Excellent Job!!!

I'm in the same boat at 6'2" with a 34" inseam..

When I had my 2005 1200C I felt cramped with the standard "forward controls", and most of the time I rode with my heels resting on top of the pegs.

One of the things I was going to do was fabricate some extentions to move the controls a few inches forward.

Thanks for the input.

I played with using brackets to move the entire original controls forward but it looked like and addon.

Saw a Dyna forward control and came up with this idea. Played with angles to get what I wanted. If you look at my design page at the top of this post you'll see I used a 5 degree angle on drilling and welding the round bar. That gave me 5". I tried 15 degrees and it gave right at 4". I have a 33"+ inseam and the 5" worked out perfect, like you I had to ride with my heals over the pegs, which actually hit me above the heal. Now the tips of my heals can reach the pegs if I want to fully stretch out.

Like you said, it's hard to tell exactly from pictures, but the 5" extension appears to give about the same amount of 'leg room', or maybe even slightly more forward, as the forward controls on my Dyna WideGlide (picture below).

You can also see how close to the rider the stock forward controls on the 2004+ Sportsters are positioned.
