Default Kuryakn Hidden Horn Install-with pics

I have never been a fan of the looks of the air horns on bikes (plus I hear the brackets sometimes fail) and yet I wanted a louder horn that wouldn't clutter my left side. Well, I happened to find these at my local HD. I was surprised because I didn't know anybody made such a product-and I thought I was up to date on most Kuryakn products. Anyways, these would also be good for guys who have lowers and cannot install full sized horns. The horns are definitely louder than the stock HD horn. Kuryakn says they are 115 decibels. The install instructions are for an RK with no brackets for a tour pack or back rest (I do have tour pack and back rest supports)-so I had to improvise a little, but overall it was an easy install. It took about 3 hours, but I took my time-someone who works on their bike regularly could probably do it much quicker than I.

1. A pic of the kit
2. The two bolts that need to be removed in order to install the horn

1.When putting back into place the rear most bolt which has spacers for the tour pak bracket-I had to remove the large spacer and replace it with two washers in order two reduce the space about an 1/8 inch in order to compensate for the width of the horn bracket. I test fitted the tour pak to be sure it fit before fully tightening the bolt

2.Once the horn was installed and all bolts tightened I routed the wiring behind the fender strut

1.The wire lead that routes to the horns power supply is fed through a hole in the body, under the seat to get it to the stock horn power supply.

2.It is then plugged into the stock horn power supply-neatly hidden just behind the horn body.

1. I then neatly tied up all the wires with the supplid wire ties.

2.And stuffed them into the little space in front of the battery compartment

I have the same feeling about the looks.

Nice write up I may go this route. Thanks

Looks like you did a good job on the install. Question, from the pics of the horn placement, it looks like the shocks might rub the horn when in a downward travel. Have you checked the clearance of it, does it seem like it will clear them? If it came in contact with the horn, I wonder if it would knock it loose? Thanks for the install pics, does the stock horn still work on the left side?

Hey Papatravis,
I was wondering if anyone would ask about the clearance of the horn and shock. I took it for a ride after the install and was sure to hit train tracks a few time to get the shocks to fully compress. The ride felt fine, but when I got home to inspect the horns, I could see that the shock just would barely touch the forward most horn and put a very small on the side of the top. It in no way moved or loosened the horn and the horn still functions perfectly. I can live with a small dent in order to have shockclearance since the horns cant be seen with the bags and all. If there are any major problems in the future I will post and update, but for now it all seems to be working fairly well.

The kit comes with a "Y" connector that lets you keep the stock horn functioning like normal. If you leave out the "Y" connector (as I did) then the stock horn no longer functions. The "Y" connector install looks like it would add another 5 minutes to the total install process.
