Got it in the garage and trying to get at the lighter to hook up a GPS power wire. BUT I removed three screws by the windshield and another two screws on the inside by the Lexan deflectors and the ring from around the headlight (which I don't think needed to come off ) and I cannot find any more screws and it still seems to be stuck or bolted by the headlight. Is there another screw down there somewhere???
two more at the bottom you may need a light to see them it is easier to see them with the bars turned one way to get to one the other wat to get to the other. The headlamp trim didnt have to come off
buy a service manual the next time you are at the HD - it will make life easier... good luck, once you find all the screws, it is a simple easy job... one hint.. leave the middle windshield screw "loose" in place.... it will make it all jus that much easier...
You don't have to remove the trim ring, but you will have to do a reach around to unplug the socket to the headlight. I prefer to remove the trim ring, and unplug the light first. Then you can clean the fairing behind the ring while it's off. Found some nice butterfly parts in there.
Eitherway, check your inner fairing mounting brackets while you are there. Flad sheet metal brackets on the 96 and 01 atleast.
Some have reported cracks, but ours are still good at 50k and 20k respectively.

Both inner fairing brackets on hers failed between 20k and 22k. Shook that little rubber reset cover off again. Bought some more spares this time and used the RTV on the threads.
I just went back and looked at the pic of the 20K and Clearview install and see the crack developing at the left hand bracket (7 o'clock to the speaker coil). If you have your Fairing off look closer than I did.
I'll post a pic of the break when I get them off.
Replaced both inner brackets today. If you have lost a trip odometer reset button cover, check you Brackets, close. Hers were cracked 2k ago and this is what they looked like last week.
