Default let the "Mods" begin

Ok before I get lambasted about a post with no pics, I will get them up shortly (day or two). Love the new Sundowner seat and the chrome rear sprocket bolt covers clean up the look - need to get the swingarm bolt covers. The stiring stem bolt cover also looks neat. But for the real differance, Long horn bars - Awsome - but they arn't finished yet (sneakin over to play only works a little at a time) - I'll wait'l I'm back at work and finish while I'm on breaks.

Got the old bars off and the Longhorns seated - rerouted the throttle cables so they arn't through the fork. Looks like I am going to need to extend the wiring (already got the shrink tubing to get that done- thinkin or runnin them through the bars but there is an indentation in the upper curve that may prevent that). Also, will be relocating the turn signals to the upper forks - custom made parts there - or I may spend the $30 for teh Harley part - havent decided.

Brake line - opps - will need to extend that - should be no problem - lots of buddies with the right tools, should be able to remove the upper black hose and just install a longr section - the 06 sporster brake line is an oddball, the upper and lower fittings are differant than on other bikes and getting a longer hose would require getting one made up anyhow (so I was informed at the dealer) - otherwise the hose would be pricey. - They told me if I got in a jamb, they'd get me hooked up somehow - I can work on that for now and see what I come up with.

The cluch cable looks to be a bit short but I haven't really lokoed at the setup yet.

Pictures and progress to follow, but do have to say what a differance in ridin position and initial look of the bars. Now if I can get this snow to go away.

Might as well get ready to change the clutch cable, I'm surprised the throttle cables will work also. The steel braided front line should be long enough. about 69 bucks. Good luckand yea consider yourself flamed for NO PICS DUDE!

Firts pic from above is the rear sprocket bolt covers the second is the sterring stem cover Net will be the new bars vs the stock. The second one is an Idea I have for a lost foam casting of aluminum to relocate the turn signals to the upper forks, just above the headlight.

So far in the bar install, I have managed to reroute the throttle cables by runing them on the tank side of the forks - they'l work fine and I have extended the electrical harness while also routing it through the bars, a neat thing I read about in this post: https://www.hdforums.com/m_104653/tm.htm on a road King High bar install.

The turn signals will find a new home on the upper forks by the headlights.

Two things that I will need to address before the snow melts is the brake line - have a local auto parts store that can remove the upper hose and clamp on a longer one and the clutch cable is a tad short, with all the keepr clamps off, it fits, but it looks stupid hangin out their - also, it nolonger disingages the tranny which I discovered when I tried to roll forward to get a feel for the bar position. Obviously somthing came loose behind door #1 - I think the cable came unhooked.

Cool beans man..... I have the long horns on my bike and I love them.
The swingarm bolt covers are also a good addition to clean up the rear, then the rear brake cylinder and the tappet covers and...........

Welcome to the never ending task that is customizing.

ok ralow - two set of batteries on he digital camera have failed - will get more pics up soon - the front turn signal light brackets are cast and should be a day or two befor I have them finished, polished and ready to install - figured out the clutch cable - taking the handel off added just enough slack that it was sightly out of adjustment - couple turns and the clutch lever works, but it looks stupid hangin out in the wind away from the frame and I fear it will chaf the tank. Looks like I am going to have to go through the dealer for the brake line, thanks to the lawyers and the lawsuits, nobody will make brake lines for road use - go figure. even the steel tubing is a differant size, a local shop was going to hook me up by splicing in a section of steel tubing, but the smallest he can get is 1/4" and the line is narrower than that.

Mods and cash - mods modify more than the bike, they do a wonderful job at lightening the wallet

It's all worth it though.

Need two things - make that four 1- longer brake line, 2 - longer clutch cable, 3 - an 06 manuel to install clutch cable (been meaning to get this and santa forgot) 4 - beer

ok more money would be nice - one way for me not to complain about the snow, at least when it snows, I get extra Harley money from plowing - ok two quick storms, one billing cycle and a rapid warm up

was looking to relocate the horn but it will not fit up front along the frame - I've never really liked it "hangin out in left feild" - any ideas where to move it too? Under the head light will cause it to catch rain and it looked strange.

The factory horn on the 883 is between the frame rails in front of the engine but I believe is a different horn than the 1200. I kinda like the Horn on the left side of the engine, gives a little chrome there. But then again I love Chrome!!!
