I understand carburetors but EFI has me stumped. Where can I get more education on remapping? I get lost when you guys are talking SERT, dyno programs, etc. I know my bike is running lean and the stealship want $120 to remap. They tell me that the EPA makes them set them lean but they can sell you a remap for $120 that opens them up a little. Sounds like BS to me but I don't have the education to know. Thanks for the help Marty
if your willing to part with 25 bucks and invest some time in reading this book is a great resource. its a bit techinical and sometimes boring but it will teach you all you want to learn:

The maps they're talking about are tables the computer uses to look up information in while making its decisions. One axis will denote various engine speeds and the other will denote various throttle openings. At the intersection of any combination will be found the appropriate value. When re-mapping, the values within the table are modified.
The dealer is either lieing to you or to theirself. Yes, the maps are set lean (in the lower speeds/throttles) for EPA compliance. Where they're not being honest is when they say they can modify those values for you. Oh, they can modify them, but then you'll lose EPA compliance. It won't be too much of a burden on you (unless you fail an inspection at some point) but to them it can mean a huge fine.
I'd start by reading at the top of the forum "Why EFI Vehicles Need To Be Tuned". From there, much info just on this forum alone to give you all the info you need to know. You can also look at *****************.
