Default Bar Habor Ferry Question

Do you have to tie down your bike when you are on the ferry? If so do you have to take your tie downs with you or do they supply them? Thanks, I know some of you have made the trip to Nova Scotia.

Yes you have to tie your bike down. They supply the tie downs, the tie downs are a little on the heavy weight side. You have to secure your own bike. Suggest you take some shop rags or make some loops (rope or web belt) to attach the tie downs to your bike to protect your chrome, paint etc.

Even if they didn't require it I think I would want to tie it down just in case. Water can be very unpredictable.

I plan on heading up to NS in June of 08. Any suggestions from those who have been there before?

Cyb.... Go around counter clockwise.... Watch out for the different routes... we started going on the lighthouse route... Waste of time.... Hit Peggys Cove.... just before it is a memorial to flight 111 and before that was the UFO sighting area... Halifax, Cabot Trail (watch out for moose) Digby (gotta have the mussles)

This is helpful..... My suggestion would be not to make hotel reservations just wing it....
A MUST DO is in Annapolis Royal..... You have to check out the grave yard tour... It is very interesting to here the story of the area..... You will not believe where they burried the prisoners and traders.....
Enjoy it! it is a beautiful place with lots of history....

I lived in Halifax, NS for 5 years. Stay off the main highways. Annapolis Valley, Blomidon Inn or Old Orchard Inn are prime places to spend a night. On the lighthouse trail, the Liscomb Lodge is UNBELIEVABLE! The plank salmon is delicious. Get one of the cabins on the river and enjoy watching the fly fishermen. You'll need a reservation for the Lodge. It is worth it!The Cabot Trail is a great ride. I'd strongly suggest staying in one of the motels near the beginning of the trail near the Red Barn. Stay at the room for two nights. Do the trail in between. Take you time, stop often, enjoy the ride. Clockwise is the route I like the most. The Margaree River is a great place to stop with a bottle of wine. The nicest place to stay on the Trail is the Keltic Lodge. You'll probably need a reservation for this also, and, again, you won't be disappointed.
On the way back, spend a night in Halfiax at the waterfront area. The Shearton Hotel is a casino and a good place to stay. The bikers hang out at Perks (a local coffe shop). The beer and Keltic music at the pub Lower Deck can't be missed. All is within walking distance of the hotel. A day excursion to Peggy's Cove is the best way to see it. It's less than an hour out of town. For the BEST fried clams or fried cod go over the bridge to Dartmouth to Fred's. It's not much to look at, but you won't find better clams any where in the world. If you want upscale seafood, Five Fisherman in Halifax is the place to go to.
The HOG Chapter in Halifax is great. Much different than the Chapters in the states. This group does everything together. Send them an email and you'll probably find a friend or two for life. Tell them Duane recommended you contact them...

Good luck and enjoy,
Duane
