I have a 07 heritage that is making metallicping noise from the front headlight area when I hit a bump. It is more prevalant when it is cool outside. It is not clunking but more like tapping a tin can sound. It is driving me nuts and I am about to tear into the headlight area. I almost believe that it could be a wire connector bouncing around... Anyone else experience this on their heritage?
I have it too. Sounds like loose change on cold mornings. I had thought it was my keys in the windshield bags but finally traced it to an area I thought was below the gas tank. Didn't think of the headlight.
I took off the windshield bag to eliminate that theory. It is a aggravating noise. The only way i can get it to make the noise is by riding the bike and hitting small bumps in the road. It will not do it when I manually compress the forks while not moving. My noise really seems to be coming from the headlight area.
It's possible that one of the three tiny screws that hold your headlight retaining ring backed out and is bouncing around in the housing or the trim ring. It happened to me before.
Or if you're running the frenched trim rings it might have something to do with that. Mine has been doingit lately. It may have to do with no rubber gasket between the the frenched trim ring and the headlight or just the way it's mounted. Maybe the little tabs on the housing need to be adjusted (bent) in or out for a tighter fit.
Hey BH, do not be afraid to tear into it and find out for yourself. There really isn't much to a headlight but the Stealer will soak you plenty for it. Then you will know what is in your headlight area. Others are right about the screw that may have come out and bouncing around or the 2 tabs up at the top that the beauty ring goes over to align the ring. It should have a black plastic protector around each of those tabs that keep things spaced as well as protects metallic sounds from being audible.............let us know wht you find.........M.S. by the time I get my bike running really great, I will have taken it apart and put it back together umpty ump times!
I thought i was the only one that had that noise.I never considered that the cold weather was a factor and Iam not convinced it has anything to do with it. If you find out where that noise is commig from let me know. Its driving me bananas also. Thanks
