Maybe you are low on lighter fluid?
Sorry I couldn'tcontain myself. I know what you mean, when a small insignificant noise will drive you nuts, trying to find its source. Don't do too many gymnastics, going down the road, looking for the source.
Tom
I will try not to do any handstands on the bike while riding.I am not one that get's all worked up over the sounds that harley's make but this is definetly something loose bouncing around in the front end. The sound is identical to what was described by candy azz that a screw came loose and is bouncing around in the headlight housing. Hopefully I will find the source this weekend.

I'll share what fixed my little squeaks and pings: V&H BSS. I don't hear anything wrong now. Hee hee hee. (like others, I couldn't resist).
I am very glad you are one among us that doesn't get worked up over various Harley sounds! Oh so much of the Harley charm and alure is dealing the the individual personalities that each bike gives us!
A lot people with Heritages have complained about the same myself being one of them. To the best of my knowledge no one has been able to figure out what it is
I have that same noise but in my 07 Deluxe itonly last the first1/2 mile of riding. When I hit a bump I get the noise you describe then with further riding it goes away.Hoping its not in the engine, I am about to drain my forks and put a heavier weight oil in there tonight. I am hoping that the oil was low from the factory and is draining down the forks when the bike sits, and clanking in the fork tubes which goes away as oil is dampened throught the system. When I jacked up the bike and took the fork tube caps off, the springs looked dry as a bone, even had a rusty look. Which only having a HD since 9/06 and having only 10,000 miles on it, I am not sure if that is how it is supposed to look. Every other bike I have had in my 20+ years of riding alway had oil residue on the spring and(or) spacers, even at the top of the forks. I am praying this is it and not someothercritical engineissue as I am about to leavetomorrow 10/27 from Seattle on a 3000 mile ride stopping in Palm Springs for a week. Either way, if you have not figured it out by time I get back, I probably will know what it is by then because the new fork oil will havefixed it or I guess I will have had a major break-down.
I have to thank pcinelli@rcn.com for saving my sanity. I had the same problem with my 07 Fatboy and the problem is with defective forks. This guy found the cause and a copy of the HD tech bulletin describing the problem and the solution - new forks. There is a bushing in the forks that did not get installed properly and causes the annoying rattle. After presenting the tech info, my dealer fixed it (new forks) without a murmer. I'm sure the problem is the same with other models with the same forks. Good luck!

Would you be so kind as to pass on all of the information and a copy of th HD bulletin?
Yes, please post a copy of the bulletin. I do have the chrome lower forks that were installed by the dealer before I bought the bike. Will be interesting to see if it applies to these as well.
I have figured out one of the rattles on my 07 heritage, its the gas cap. I have 1 mile of gravel each way and it about drove me nuts until I figured it out.
