When I shift into 5th gear on my 07 I hear this whining sound from the back of the bike where my wife is sitting. It sounds like, and this is hard to describe in writing, howfastareyougoingyouregoingtoofast. It doesn't happen in 1 thru 4, just fifth. I've got 5200 miles on the bike, so it's not like it's just gonna go away. When I shift to 6th the whine goes away but I get more of a "bitching" type sound. I put on louder pipes to try to hide the noise, but I can still hear it. I read on this forum that perhaps the windshield is amplifying the sound directly into my ears and that's what's making them bleed. Called the dealer and told him about the problem and was told it was normal and nothing they could do about it. So much for standing behind your product. F*cking Harley Davidson. I spent 23 grand on this bike. Am I being unreasonable to expect a bike free of noises that make you want to drive under a truck? The sound is driving me to the point of suicide. Only happens when I ride 2up. Should I just not take my wife riding, or as an alternative, just not take my wife riding? Just a note of caution. I read on here that the 08s have the same fifth gear whine.

yes you are being unreasonable. Sorry for the bad news but you bought a 100 year oldair cooled product that is at its design limit. Water cooled H-D on the way and will eliminate this type of concern.
It's your wife making the whining sound, admittedly the dealer fell flat and neglected to tell you to get rid of her as a passenger and the whining sound will go awayDid you describe the "howfastareyougoingyourgoingtoofast" sound accurately, sounds like you gave the dealer too little information to diagnose the problem, don't blame them.
