G'day guys, want to install a chrome sprocket cover on my 07 streetbob and was wondering if you really need to disconnect the hydraulic line from the rear caliper before removing the caliper? Thought I might be able to pry the pads apart then remove and do the same to refit to the disc? Do you also need to remove the cover off the reservour? Also the sevice manual doesn't mention the belt tension adjusters? Will I need to worry about them??
Thanks in advance

Be sure to measure the distance from the small hole in the swing arm to the center of the axel so you can adjust the tension back where it was. I removed my rear wheel without taking the line off the brake caliper, if you have a lift, after you unhook the shocks you should be able to slide the wheel back and away from the caliper.
As mentioned, youshould be able tounmount the shocks with the bike on a lift and remove the rear wheel without messing with the axle adjusters.
Should you have to release the tension on the drive belt, mark your adjuster screws and count the number of rotations needed to release the tension. Then when reinstalling the wheel, retighten those screws the same number of rotations.
You should not need to do anything with the brake line or rear master cylinder.
ggibson, I came online this morning to post this exact same thing about my 07 Superglide Custom. If you do the work yourself, do you mind coming back here and posting as much detail on what you did and how and if you had any issues or gotchyas? Also, if there are any specific tools needed other than typical sockets, a torque wrench, etc., please advise.
Speaking of pulley covers. I had one installed on last tire change and as strange as it sounds if it is above 90 degrees outside and when you decel the cover rattles like a pie pan. Drove me nuts trying to figure where the sound was coming from but finally did. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what was the fix??

First thing I'd do is check the bolts and make sure they are tight. If they areas tight as they can be and still have any space between the washers and the cover, you may need to add a washer. I don't see how it could rattle if something isn't loose. I wouldn't ride it again until I checked it. I'm sure those bolts need to be torqued though so be sure and tighten to specs if you do anything.
Thanks for the info. I did check and all is tight. In one area of the leading edge of the pulley cover is the culprit. Warped about a 16th of a inch in about a 4" radious along the leading edge. Just enough so when it is hot out, it warps in the spot, just enough to cause it to rattle against the pulley itself. Only does it when it is in the 90's but very annoying to say the least. I did a search on it to see if anyone else had the same problem but did not find anyone.
I have seen them covers rattle also, I know this sounds really stupid but I just put about 4 dabs of clear silicone around the perimeter between the cover and the sprocket, rattle no more.
