Default Fix the front end clunk and save $5 in the process

In the beginning of the month HD released a Service Bulletin #M-1215 that addressed front end looseness/clunking in the 06+ Dyna's https://www.hdforums.com/m_2709503/tm.htmusing part#45727-08. MoCo then released an addendum to first post M-1215A which changed the part# for the washer needed to fix the problem. The new part number was 45740-07. I bought both;

1)Part#45727-08 for $1.70 (original part per service bulletin)

2)Part#45740-07 for $6.73 (new partper service bulletin) This part number is for the KIT which includes #42727-08 and instruction sheet.

The difference you ask $5 nothing more, well for $5 you get an instruction sheet that tells you how to replace the washer and to tighten steering stem nutto 70 to 80 ft-lbs. it is the same exact washer so;

If you have a clunk or looseness in your front end....buy washer #45727-08, replace the lock washer that bends into the steering stem nut with it and tighten steering stem nut to 70-80 ft.lbs. No need to worry about being out of warranty etc. for the $1.70 fix. Guys here do enough crap to their bikes that this should be a breeze.

I only referenced the above link because there was confusion regarding part numbers, the above post contradicts what is written here but these are the right numbers, I have both service bulletins and the actual parts to confirm.

The local Dealer here agreed to fix mine under warranty but he is making me pay another way. I have to take my bike to him next tuesday and he won't give it back until thursday. I'm guessing the repair will take maybe 15 minutes and they have NO work going on in the shop but they need 3 days. Give me a break!

I hope he at least follows the $5 instructions. I'm always afraid that whatever they touch will fall off eventually. Maybe I'll pick up the part and do it myself.

I got THE call today, my kit is in. Sorry muddyape for the wrong part # but I didnt write the buliten. I owe you $1.70 or a beer.

What the heck is this junk anyway? Just a new lock washer and new nut? with a new torque spec?
When I asked a HD tech friend he said they are still just Torquing the $hit out of them.

Is the washer still just a lock washer, not something special?

Impala...no worries, flying by the seat of our pants on this one. I just wanted the right part because im redoing the front end (powdercoat etc) and wanted to put it together with the right part. It is NOT a lock washer, just a flat washer. A little thicker than before and hardened. There will be no bending this one into the nut....thats ok with me, one less way to gouge up the triple trees. Im just gonna throw some blue loctite on and torque it to 80 ft-lbs. I figure this new one must not "flex" like the old one did maybe making the tree's a little more rigid. My kit was in today too btw, said it was backordered. The instructions from this are dated 7/27/07 so they knew for awhile. F'ers.

When I did the steering head bearings on my 07fxstc that cheap *** washers tab was bent out of the hole that locks it from the friction of the nut. Made a slightly thicker flat washer and just used blue Loctite on the nut. Wasn't locked from the factory anyway. Threw the factory POS in the garbage where it belongs.
