Default New Torque Values for IDS?

I read on another thread today that HD has updated the torque values on the IDS sprocket to higher value (I think from 60 to 80lbs) can anyone that is in the know verify this, I just received my IDS and will be in stalling in the next day or two and I dont want to have to re-torque those.

Thanks

You want to see my"in the know"card or something?[sm=joke.gif]

The Service Document can be gained by visiting your Dealership and inquiring about it.
Ask them about the M1216 2008 Service Literature Update. It has info related to updates to various models on different subjects on 2008 bikes, but since the IDS is retrofitted to the '07 line-up the IDS info applies to the '07's as well.

If that is the case, will the dealership re-torque my IDS free since they installed it?

Hey Ultra, no disrespect meant. I could not remember where I saw it mentioned and should not have used those words. But now that I have seen your "in the know" card I am all good, so was it 80lbs?

I personally put mine on and I distinctly remember giving it a bit more torque than (at the time) the recommended 60lbs, and I also used some blue loctite to ensure it's security. However, the Service Document # is listed for 2 reasons, (1) to allow you as the consumer to become aware of the change, and (2) maybe your dealership doesn't keep abreast of the current Service Documents and by you bringing this to their attention will heighten their awareness as well.

The new Document dated 02/12/08 recommends 80ft-lbs of torque on the compensator bowl hex bolts. And to those that have them torqued to 60ft-lbs, back them off and retighten to 80ft-lbs of torque. Whether your dealership will do this for you or not is beyond me.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy the refinement the IDS brings to your drivetrain.

I hope I do, I waited a while before deciding on the IDS and now I am reading about bearing failure and possible crash/injury of this failure. Hope that was just an isolated incident. I don't have any of the clatter/noise issues that others have had but I do have some low RPM vibration that I hope to get rid of with the install.

Don't sweat it. Have it installed or learn how to install it yourself and make checking on it a part of your service scheduleand you should be good to go.

Thanks, I plan on installing it myself tomorrow. As far as checking the bearing at service intervals, how would one check it? Remove the wheel and make sure the races don't fall apart?

I'm gonna do the "Thibodeaux and Boudreaux Method".........that being, shake it from side to side with wheel off the ground for any play.

Visually inspect the area for anything out of the ordinary.

Then, and most importantly, PRAYfor my safety each and everytime I venture out on it.....which I do anyways, butmaybe an extra "PLEASE LORD" for posterity's sake.

Seriously though, take your time and pay attention to detail. Look at the design and go into this job with even more knowledge than you would have initially and you'll be fine.

Postwith any/all questions.

I picked up the service bulletin and its not for just the IDS.All 08 sprockets to wheels should be loosened and retorqued to 80ftlbs.Dont know if its something specific to just 08 wheels? It only mentions 08 Dynas,Softails, touring bikes,Sportsters and screaming eagle bikes.I was home before I read bulletin so dont know if it applys to earlier wheels.
