Default Got my Street Bob bars on my FXDC!

First of all, thank you everyone who answered all my questions leading up to this. I was really torn between getting the full chrome controls/internal wiring/flashy stuff and doing this on the cheap. Well, here's how it ended up happening:

- Used SB bars w/throttle cables & clutch cable from a forum member $50.00 shipped
- One of the throttle cables looked a little flakey, so Zinotti's for throttle cables, a brake line, and Nostalgia grips - about $100.00
- Local dealer: clips to hold wiring harness on the bars & a 1K mile gasket kit $6.00
- 1 qt Syn III $9.95
- 1 bottle Prestone DOT 4 brake fluid $4.00

So, I started out with my service manual taking everything apart. Got the bars mounted up and started putting everythign back together. the used clutch cable would absolutly not go ito the transmission cover for some reason. A little cleaning of both sides gently with a tap & die cleaned up the threads enough to get started and then was fine.

Brake bleeding is a b*tch so, I sprung for a $29.00 vacuum pump at Auto Zone. Made life MUCH easier, best tool under $30.00 I own except for my BFH

Started it on Sunday afternoon, had to go out to dinner w/ an old cow-orker in town from CA, left with the clutch cable problem. I picked it up again today, solved the clutch cable problem, tucked in the wires, fastened everything up and went for a ride - WOO-HOO!

So, I just wanted to share my success with everyone and thank you folks for the words of wisdom, parts, encouragement, and all that good koom-by-ya stuff.

I know, I know, worthless without pics... here they are

Looks good, turkeyrun!! I'll bet it'll be a lot more comfortable riding, now.
Sorry to hear you had so much trouble with the brakes.
Almost ashamed to tell you I was able to replace my front brake line without even having to loosen the bleeder.

Hi TurkeyRun,quick question, I'm thinking about fitting a sissy bar to my suoer glide custom. I noticeyou have one fitted and it looks great. Did you fit yours yourself? If so how was it and did you have to relocate yourear turn signals?

Hey Up in Minot - actually, you were one of the first folks I remember talking to about the SB bars glad I finally got-er-done.

The headlight is that pricey one from HD. I had some "chrome cash" stashed away and wanted to be sure the sucker fit no-questions-asked, so I ponied up the $$$ to the stealer for it. All in all, I like it a lot - only issue was the high/low beam wires were backwards in the plug. Seems this is a common thing, there was a thread going on this a little while back.

Actually, the headlight was a functional thing just as much as a "cool shiny thing". I have a Memphis Shades windshield that I use on long trips and when Mrs. TurkeyRun is on board. The stock headlight was actually partially behind the lower edge of the windshield. The blinkers too, up on the bars were 100% behind the windshield. At night, the friggin' windshield lit up! Totally blinded me. So........ upgrade opportunity

Anyway, I know there are cheaper ways to get a bullet headlight, but I have absolutly no complaints on mine - took all of 15 minutes to remove the old one and pop this one on. It's solid, and as you said - looks good.

Thanks!

Hey Cornwall, welcome to the forums.

I got the detatchable backrest kit from HD when I bought the bike. They wanted shop-labor-rates to install my "free" stuff, so I told them just load the parts in the wife's car - I'll be fine thank you.

Anyway, yes I installed it myself, nothing to it. If you go out to the HD website and find the "customizer tool" it'll build you a parts list and everything. I did relocate the turn signals, but that was really for the hard saddlebags more than for the backrest. I used the kit sold by the Eazy-Bracket folks. Works fine.

Nice look - I just got done putting some wide glide mini apes on my fat bob - and boy is it comfortable.I liked everything about my fat bob, but always seemed there was something missing, and found out what it was a couple hours ago on my test run.
