I've already decided to install the 440's on the rear of my 2007 xl50, but I have heard mixed opinions on whether the Harley fronk forks were fine to use, but best if i install the Screaming Ealge oil...
Or... do I install the progressive forks..... but which oil too use is the question??
RE: which oil to use with Progressive fork springs?
The HD SE forkoil is a heaver wieght oil and will stiffen up the front end fairly equally from mild impact to strong impact .
The Progressive fork springs also stiffen the front end but do so progressively based on the impact. If you go to the Progressive springs I recommend using standard wieght fork oil like Belray 15w. The progressive springs combimed SE fork oil makes for am almost rigid suspension.

+1
Youhave no need to change the oil unless you are approaching 20k.

thanks for the input... i was told by a harley tech that the springs in our sporsters were also progressive in style and that there wasnt much difference between them and the company PROGRESSIVES

is that true
Not in my opinion. The Progressives made a noticable improvement in the ride of my bike and at about $80 they are resonably priced.

I went to the HD dealer today to get SE fork oil but Ted the parts Manager said, all I neded was the standard 15 wt oil with my new Progressive springs. So I went with the 15 wt. If cHarley agrees then I must have got the right oil...

I'd recommend using the Progressive springs, but take it a step further and add in the Race Tech cartridge emulator valves. They'l allow you to fine(r) tune the forks' compression damping and you can use the fork oil weight to fine tune the rebound damping.
Best of all the worlds without spending a grand to get real cartridge forks (Traxxion).

Drumer,
The stock fork springs are wound at two rates as opposed to progressive. I think that is why mine would "launch" when it came close to bottoming out before I installed the Progressive fork springs.
