Hey guys I've been looking into getting a street glide and the HD website states that S/G start at 18 and some change yet every dealer I go to has them for around 20/21k. If I ordered one that was 18k what options am I losing out on? I don't need the bells and whistles, I just love the look of the S/G, want a radio, want hard bags, and I like the overall look of it. So again my question is, Is it worth the extra money or are they adding on options that are not needed? Also I see the electra glide standard is a lot cheaper than the S/G. Is there a harness under the front to add a radio? cause I'd rather save a few bucks and spend the money elsewhere. I'm not to partial to the chrome accents everywhere but I could always strip it down right?
....ahhh...welcome to ..."The Choice"...Street-Glide?...or Electric-Glide Classic....for the same price of a Street-Glide..an Electra Glide Classic(not Standard), will give you the following at no extra charge:
1. Tour-Pak...greatest option ever made once you make it de-tacheable
2. More paint..(tour-pak)
3. more chrome.(fender trims etc)
4. more protection(bigger windshield/saddlebag protectors)
4. more lighting(spotlamps, fender tips)
5. better ride(more shock travel)
The radio and hard bags are standard options on a Street Glide. Either your dealer is jacking them way up over MSRP or the ones you are looking at have ABS and security added. The $18 and some change price is msrp on black with mag wheels. Spokes, other colors etc add to this price. When I bought my 07 the sticker price was around 19.5k I told the dealer I would pay 18.2 (msrp on 07)or go elsewhere.......I walked out a few hours later with the bike. I would suggest if you have a few dealers in your area to look around, go to the HD website and look at the options you might want and see what msrp is with them. Go to the dealer and tell them that is what you are willing to pay and be done with it.
both are correct --- if you can afford it get the Ultra -- if not get the EGC (try a low mileage used and save big)--- either one caneasily be converted to a customized SG -- trust me you will need a tour pak and the extra lighting.

Joe Mac is right but spend a little more and get the ultra. If you are looking for a low cost street glide your time has passed.
I would def use the tour pack but like you guys said make it detach. But I wana sleeker looking scoot with less chrome. I would swap out the front fender for something a little smaller and change up the front rim while I was at it. I'd take off the crash bar and trim around the bags, then switch to a lower profile seat. I'd like lower shocks in the back and a lower windshield. I just can see where harley can slap a price tag like that on? I can see extra for factory alarm and cruise control, now thats options I'd like but can live without. But 3k is a little steep.

You're already over three grand by "swapping" parts out on what you said above.
Get the Street Glide.....plenty of them out there for cheap.

....after hearing you describe a little more in detail what your vision is for a bike, i think your best bet is just as Kern has said....look for a low-mileage, highly blinged 06-07(preferebly an 07 if the price is within 1500 or so of an 06), Street-Glide. You can then look for a Tour-Pak on Ebay, make it detacheable, and then have everything you wanted in a bike for....I'm guessing,...16-17K....that saves you about 5K over new, plus the cost of a stage 1 which almost all used bikes have(another 1500-2000),...for a whopping savings of about 7,000 over going new....
I think i would go for the classic and stip it you can always add the "old man" parts back as you might need them it you go for the standard it is a little priceie to chorme you motor
when I was in daytona the dealers down there were reddy!!! to deal for real no bull **** deal like $2500.00 off a ultra (semonal H-D) $1500 below msrp + no setup or delivery
