Ignition/Tuner/ECM/Fuel InjectionNeed advice on ignition issues? Questions about a tuner? Have questions about a EFI calibration or Fuel Injection? Tips on Engine Diagnostics, how to get codes, and what they mean. Find your answers here.
Just installed and initialized my new TMax. However, when linked to the ECM and running the bike, the front and rear AFR monitors are only showing a 9.3ish AFR. The target is set at 13.0 (default). Anyone else with a TMax seen this? My data link is plugged in and I did the initialization as required. It seems to run ok, but this scares me. Any advice from the TMax Gods on this forum???
OK, I'll admit my stupid mistake. I initially left the data cable off and it was registering 9.3 AFR. It has to be the cable (though you say yours is on) or the autotune is not functioning.
I linked up and double-checked - all four checkboxes are checked in the Closed Loop Config.
To make matters worse, now when I turn on the ignition, I'm getting this loud noise while the fuel pump runs. Wasn't doing this before. CRAP!
When linked withkey on and engine not running do the afrs go to 19.36? If not it's not reading the 02 sensors whitch will cause a bogus reading in front and rear afr gauges. As for the noise , did you run the tank amost out of fuel? Ron

I'll double-check on the 19.36- just came across that in the manual. As for the noise, the tank is full of gas. My battery is low from having the ignition on so much today...maybe the pump isn't getting all the juice it needs (wishful thinking?).
That's a possibility. I usually hook up my trickle charger when working with ignition on for long periods. It's amazing how fast the volts drop off is a short time. As you get more knowledgable with the tmax the sessions will get quicker and the drain will be less. Ron
Low voltage plays all sorts of tricks on EFI systems, could be the culprit. Trickle charger works great, & sometimes I pull the fuse for my lights before turning on & linking up...
Well,I went back out and linked up to see if the AFRs jumped to 19.36 (indicating they are working) - thanks rbabos for that tip! Never budged from 9.30.
Ididn't mention (mainly because I researched this already and saw that a LOT of people experienced this, despite everything working) - when I click "Monitor", an error message pops up saying the O2 Sensors can't be detected. As I said, I read multiple instances where guys were seeing this, yet everything else worked fine. I guess in my case, that error message is on target. That's what I get for disregarding it. Doesn't appear that my O2 Sensors are working. I checked the data link cable - secure. Checked the O2 connections - secure. I'm going to uninstall/reinstall SmartLink, and then go through the map loading process again. If that don't clear things up, guess the next step is a call to Zippers?
Other than the above issue, the bike runs great. I just installed Bub Seven 2-2 pipes - holy cow are they loud - but nice and low loud. It idles well, no pops on decel, and it pulls realllly good - so the base map must be close. So all in all, I'm liking this thing - but without the O2 Sensors, not much tuning is taking place!
Found the problem!! It wasn't as easy as forgetting to plug in the data link connector or something like that, unfortunately...
I've been on the phone with Zippers the past few days (Randy is who I worked with - excellent support!!). He suggested I send the AutoTune unit in, as I confirmed that I was getting power from the stock data link cable orginating from the bike's wiring harness. Sooooo tonight I set out pull the TMax unit out of the electrical box. I get everything unplugged and the electrical caddy unbolted from the frame, start pulling the module out, and TA-DA! The data link cable that originates from the Autotune module somehow got pinched and one of the wires in the harness was pierced. DOH!!! So yeah, my bike was providing power, but it wasn't getting to the module.
Pulled out the wire repair kit, patched it up, and lo and behold, my O2 sensors are detected and hit 19.36 in monitor mode (with bike not running) as is expected! I haven't had a chance to start the bike yet, as it is now 1:30am and my two little girls are fast asleep, but I'm sure all will be well when I do.
Thanks to all that replied and offered suggestions! Later!
