Malfunctioning Barrel Lock in Tour Pak - fix???
My tour pak lock (the center tumbler) went around about half way between open and closed and it is stuck there. Sort of "freaky" thing. Won't go either way.
Any ideas on how to fix besides taking the key code to the dealer for a new one???
Looks like there are 7 "pins".
THANKS.
Dave H.
Luckily I could open the trunk. Got the lock in hand.
The keyway is in the middle - so the "ear" (or little bump) on the key won't go in. No clue how that happened.
Did a search and somebody said to file the bump down and then insert the key - makes sense - but I only have one spare.
Plus I think one of the seven spring loaded pins has lost its springiness - may be shot???

I had the same thing happen to my gas door. I couln't get the key to come out. I took it to the dealer (just the lock with the key stuck in it) and they had a new key made, sent me a new lock and key set in the mail under warranty.
My Gas cap did the exact same thing last year just before a ride to Daytona on my brand new 2007 UG. Went VFR direct to the HD dealer instead and in five minutes he had my bike fixed. I said what'd I do wrong and he said, "Nothing, all of the locks were dry. We lubed them all and they're working great now. We should of done it before you took delivery. Its our screw-up." Got a tube of the HD recommended lock lube and they work smooth as whistle ever since.

Same thing happened to my fork lock. I took a Dremel tool to the key, and ground off the small tab on the outside of the cylinder. I then was able to put the key into the barrel, and unlock it from the middle position. That was two years ago, and I still use that key and lock without problem. Have the dealer copy the key first if you are worried about damaging the onlykey. The local dealer here charges $5 to copy it.
I had the same thing happen to me. I order a new lock. It was the best deal I ever got from the dealership one lock with two new keys was under 30 bucks, and they take the number off your keys so the new key is the same as the rest of the bike. I don't think you could get two keys alone for the same price-Eric
Don't know how you pulled the key out in the half way mode. Bet you have never lubricated yer lock either huh ? Find a harley dealer or somebody with some Tri Flow Spray and put some in the lock, File the tit down on the Ace key and put it in where the tit is suppose to go and see if it will turn back around. A locksmith could fix the lock.
If not carry yer key to the dealer and have them to order you a new lock and everything keyed to yer bike for like 25.00
This advice is coming to you from a locksmith of 40 yrs.
