Well my bike finally started with the front end CLUNK... i have spoke to a few people and they went over how the fix can be made with a new washer... but i have also heard that there is a service bullitin where good old HD will make the repair for me... i have searched high and low for this bullitin but have not found anything. \\; I called HD and they told me to bring it in and they will do the work but will have to charge me for the work... I am not going to pay them to put on a washer... if anyone knows where i can track down this bullitin i would be very thankful!
At first when I spoke to the dealer about it I got the same story, they said I would have to pay for it. After I dropped it off for state inspection they found the bulletin, i assume some dealers are just not aware of it. They ordered the washer, I am just waiting for it to come in so they can install it free of charge. \\;
Damn, they must not consider it a safety issue as the bulletin states "Normal warranty applies for service performed."
 \\;
Out of warranty, it your baby. \\; I've got five month's left on my warranty so I'll listen for the infamous clunk.
This clunk is caused by the steering stem and bearings being sloppy in the neck and bearing races. \\;\\\\\\; The clunk can occur when hitting bumps or applying brakes. \\;\\\\\\; The new torque specs and hardened washer correct these issues.
The first time I apply my brakes after long ride without using them, especially two up, I get a loud clunk when the front end loads up. The only thing I can compare it to is the sound a trailer makes when you drip it over a ball hitch. I have not noticed any steering issues at all, but it has been making the noise since I bought it so maybe I am just use to it. \\;
