How loud are the Sampson True Duals?
I was thinking of putting on the mufflers, but have heard they are pretty quite and I see alot on ebay. I have only seen one bike with the mufflers and can't remember the sound for the life of me, though I liked the way they looked.
How loud are the strights with baffles? What I want is a bit more sound without being overly loud. I often ride behind my hubby with big loud pipes on his Honda VTX and I really don't like it.
The dealer said I should get the muffler so I don't get alot of the popping and such you sometimes get when you put on straights, and that the bike (being a Calif bike) would actually run better.
I have the Samson True Duals on my '03 Heritage and I love them. I do not have the mufflers (see photo's) but I did put a 2 inch baffle in on each side. I have had them on before strictly as a straight pipe and they were LOUD... Too loud for me and my neighbors
... The baffles help with the sound and also the backflow.. which in turn helps it run a little better.. I'm in So. Cal. and I've never had any problems... There is some popping when you lay off it... But thats not a bad thing.. In fact I kinda like the way that sounds too... IMO you will not be disappointed going with the Samsons... and if Straight does turn out to be too loud for you, adding the baffles is an easy job..
It is cheaper to buy them that way then to buy the header pipes and mufflers seperate.
Was just reading a post from "Old Skool" who used the HD Springer Classic setup.
sounds like that was tight....Dealer actually showed me those with V & H mufflers.
Not as sleek on the right side as the samsons because they have a crossover pipe
and are not true duals.
They did not pop with a DFO installed, the only problem I had with them was the rear
pipe will glow orange (at idle) and blue very bad...but the heat shield covers most of that.
Everybody I talked to said this was typical of the true duals.

They are loud, I had a set, but not too loud. The fishtail tips give them a unique sound.

1. Does anyone know how the two pipes compare as far as sound? Not just loudness, but tone.
2. How do the two compare as far as torque and hp? I don't want to lose any.

3. Have those of you that ride with the Sampson Fishtails found the clearance an issue? Do you scrape your pipes?
4. How do the Big Shot Longs and the Sampsons compare as far as quality? Heat shields, bluing, etc.
I had sent an email to V&H last week asking if they had any plans in the near future to develop a Dual Fishtail for the Deluxe. I received an email from V&H today. Here is their reply. "We are currently looking at developing a dual system for that model. It is in the very early stages and should not be expected until late next year." I don't know if I can wait until then, but now I know.

Anyway, if some of you could answer my questions, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Mystic
