Default Back From the Gap...Pt 1

Howdy Folks,

I got back on Friday from my ride to Deals Gap, NC and Chatanooga, TN from Patterson Louisiana...total miles ridden in a week was 2400 miles. We visited several areas...among them were Cherokee, Grandfather Mountain, Linville, Blueridge Parkway, Foothills Parkway,Scenic Highway, Lookout Mountain, Rock City and the Incline Train (tram ??) and many roads that criss crossed the Smoky Mountains.

The weather was excellent except for one day (monday) when we got dumped on. The Frogg Togg rain suit as ugly as it is, it did very well against the elements.

The luggage rack held up to my 30 plus pounds of gear, though it is only rated to 10 pounds. The Full Dresser Touring bag from Kuryakin did the trick but I think I would prefer it not have the two plastic compartments. I believe it would be easier to store clothing without having to squeeze them in those two bins.

I'm attaching pics but will have to send multiple posts to be able to get them all out for your viewing pleasure. Sorry for the overload of pics but if your not interested then just skip over to another topic.

BTW, I'm the darkest one in the bunch.

Ray

Ray, glad y'all had a good ride, thanks for the pics. Been a long time since I've been to Rock City. When I was a kid there were dozens of old barns scattered through out these mountains, the roof painted with the words "SEE ROCK CITY". They were like advertisement for the attraction, kinda like a bill board, but with style. Don't see them anymore, days gone bye I suppose.

Y'all come back now, y'hear.

We got home from doing almost the same thing, we stayed 3 days at the deals gap resort and rode almost all the loops from there, we did 2909 miles in 11 days and it was indeed a wonderfull ride..Glad you had a good time, rained on only one day?? we had a little rain almost everyday, but not enough to dampen our spirits, so we say..anyway great pictures, it is always great when you can go with friends of like mind and really enjoy yourself..there are 4 of us that do it once a year..I take it you had no problems with the bikes?? wonderfull, we didn't either, we did get some bad gas in S.C. but we rode it out..Again i want to thank you for all the wonderfull pictures..[sm=biker.gif]

Man, you gotta be kidding me. 10 lbs is all that it's rated for? I have the QD rack w/ backrest, but bought it w/bike used, so no paperwork. The trip I took last month, using the Full Dresser Bag, I know the bag had to weigh at least 50 lbs. Had a soft side cooler strapped on to boot. Rode 1500 miles with this configuration, no problems. But now you have me thinking about it.

Leaving for Arkansas again a week from Monday, so I guess we will see just how much abuse the rack will tolerate.

Welcome back to hot and humid LA!

Awesome pics - looks like you guys did a lot better with the snapping than we did on our NC trip. Don't forget to check killboy.com and zeefoto.com for your on the dragon pics. This great shot is of my friend Lisa (front) and myself on the dragon back in April, courtesy of killboy

I have that full dresser bag too - I do like it, and I agree with you about that plastic thingy - its a good thing its removable - just velcros in and out and I think if I go camping, or away for longer than a few days, next time I'm ditching the plastic thing. Although if you don't have much, it is quite useful to organize all your cra, erm I mean belongings .
