ran into a honda guy today
Tony
So I had to get my computer worked on today and the computer guy had pictures of two bikes on his wall. I asked him what type of bikes they were and he told me honda and suzuki. My reply was they sure are trying to make them look like harleys these days. He didn't like that response to much and fired back with the ol I would never own a harley they are too expensive. So I asked him how much he paid for his two. He said 11g and 8g and you can't get a harley for less than 18. me being the smart a$$ that I am said sure you can I paid $14,680.00 for mine and I could resell it for more than what you could get out of both of yours. He didn't say anything after that he just finished my computer so I could leave. Why is it, other than jealousy, that these guys talk so bad about harleys when they have never been on one? I don't understand it.

TowJam,
I guess I did start it but I just stated the obvious. I wasn't trying to be an a$$ at first.
For what it's worth, I do agree with you though. I participate on a number of different bike boards (Honda, BMW, Harley) and for whatever reason, it does seem like non-Harley owners tend to bash Harley more than Harley owners bash the metrics. Guess we're secure in our purchase choice and don't need constant validation.
I try to be polite when the "I don't have $20,000 for a Harley" comments are spoken in my direction but I do tell them what a basic Superglide or Street Bob goes for. Their eyes usually get wide when people realize what they can buy an honest to goodness Davidson for a decent price. I try not to provoke...never have.
What I do get board with is the average Honda Shadow 1100 Saber owner spews BS over their next engine mod that will never take place or some accessory that will make their bike legit. I think that energy could be better directed towards a HD or american custom rather then a metric but that's just my opinion. Funny thing, these guys are usually the first ones to actually mistake a typical Harley horn for some sort of trick air intake kit and always ask what the pushrod tubes are. So you gotta know who you are dealing with, be polite and sometimes bite your tongue.

However the company itself if very lame. Their the all American company who bikes dont feature all American parts, whats up with that? Whats the forgin parts total on our bikes? My Ford is 85%, I have a feeling my bike might not be.
Also some Harley riders make the rest of the group look like asses. Some of them cant ride their way out of a paper bag, they look like walking advertisments for the MoCo, they have eveyr Harley dodad in their house, teeshirt, stickers on the car, and the bikes on a trailer or in a garage. This is why there is some anamosity.
Also their alot of guys that look at a bike as a way to go bar hopping. The bike comes out thursday night, friday nite, saturday and sunday to travel 10 min down to road to drink beer and watch sports all day.
Then again i dont understand owning a bike that looks like a harley, sounds like a harley, paid nearly as much for it as a harley, has some work done to it, yet its not a Harley. Why buy a bike to throw some stuff on it, but yet theres barely even an aftermarket? Figure any brand new bike, your going for at least 15-20 grand, b/c the cost of the bike, the cost to modify it and make it the way you want it, pipes, windsheild, bags, controls, chrome, ect. Why not have some resale value to it. Why buy something that doesnt hold its value every well?
Why buy a 600cc starter bike when an 883 is equivenent but when you sell it you want take a hit as hard?
