So I had to get my computer worked on today and the computer guy had pictures of two bikes on his wall. I asked him what type of bikes they were and he told me honda and suzuki. My reply was they sure are trying to make them look like harleys these days. He didn't like that response to much and fired back with the ol I would never own a harley they are too expensive. So I asked him how much he paid for his two. He said 11g and 8g and you can't get a harley for less than 18. me being the smart a$$ that I am said sure you can I paid $14,680.00 for mine and I could resell it for more than what you could get out of both of yours. He didn't say anything after that he just finished my computer so I could leave. Why is it, other than jealousy, that these guys talk so bad about harleys when they have never been on one? I don't understand it.

I don't take jabs at any one's choice of bike or anything else. From a different perspective, there are many members on here that swear by their Toyota trucks. Wouldn't take a made in USA truck...whats up with that?
i have had both and am an active member of www.rswarrior.com ...i have rode a lot of miles with these guys and gotta say that they are true friends...i met them when i had my warrior....i got my dyna just to see what the whole harley thing is about and have to say that (in my experience) there is a snobbishness with HD owners....too bad...i said it...yup ive seen both sides of the fence and know...i mean cmon...the vtx and roadstars are by far a better bikes all around...from the design to the fit and finish and offerings in stock form, ya just get more with a metric....and for you to say youd get 19 for your dyna????BS....i have a 120hp dyna that i paid 24k for that is worth 16k...what a load of crap..the motor company is just now getting the hint of what we as consumers want...ITS ABOUT TIME THEY BUMPED THE STOCK CUBES ON THE 2007s...my god, Harleys are turds in stock form and lack performance....i ride mine like i stole it everywhere i go....i never had a problem with my warrior, NEVER....stock 102 with a 200mm tire in the back and with a little modding here and there i had a great looking bike that was there for me everytime i started it...with my dyna?...i threw about 5 grand in the engine adn went with progressive shocks all round and billet wheels (hate spokes...they bent after a few wheelies)....and i customised the seat my self and now and only now will it walk away form the vulcan 2000, vtx and roadstars....but it took all that money to get it that way...yeah its a badass bike and i get compliments all the time but wtf????...if i could do it all over again i would have kept my warrior adn bought a sportbike instead for the same cost of the dyna...but we all make mistakes and ill live with mine and ride it till the fricken wheels fall off.....oh yeah i had the stroker flywheel twist on me last year adn lost out on 2 months of riding ...why?...because HD in 2003 got away from the teimkin (sp) bearing on the left side of the flywheel and went with a CHEAPER straight bearing that doesnt hold up well to higher hp and torque....so now that they had a cost savings i get to pay for a different bearing to be installed....also...who the **** has a chain driven cam anymore???...oh yeah HD DOES...wtf???...everyone else is running gear driven cams STOCK but the motor company doesnt...there are good points to the HD but all in all it just aint worth the cost
overthehill You got the right attitude... TowJam... I understand what your getting at... I just retired after 33 years in the government... I've been in a lot of those countries.... A lot of them don't give a rat's rear-end in how we think.. As matter of fact.. a lot don't like America or Americans... I would like to think my comments would make a difference... In the NWO
it don't mean jack... I am a share holder in HD... I ride a Harley...
In 1982, I bought a 80 Sportster for $1600.00, neadless to say it was a little rough. Money was tight then, as always. I had a neighbor who chided me about the piece of junk AMF bolling ball bike. He had the green to buy a new Honda V twin, so he did. That Sporty leaked oil from more places than you can imagin and burned quite a bit too. He never missed an opertunity to laugh at it and me. Met up with him on the road and didn't know it was him; blew him in the weeds.
The wife insisted that I do something about the oil and smoke and gave me the money to get whatever parts I wanted. Pan Head exhaust valves and seats, polished and ported the heads and hung a 42 mm Delorto pumper carb off it, PB cams New pistons and rings. A couple of 60's vintage glass packed shorty mufflers. I paid $.77 a can for the spray pain at K-Mart. Spilled gas down the side of the gas tank, ate the paint off to the primer; wow, I had a racing stripe. It didn't leak oil but it was actually uglier, I loved that bike.
Meanwhile "Honda Jim" got himself a new HD and had a guy put an Andrews cam in it. He asked me over to look at his new bike; he wanted to know if it sounded like a Harley. I told him that it was a harley and therefore it sounded like one. He went out and bought a set of pipes. He started hanging out with the crew I rode with. I thought a bro of mine was comming up on me for a run to the next light, I beat him bad, really embarrised the hell out of him. When I found out it was "Honda Jim" I felt bad but only for a few seconds.
Over the years he had some rightous rides but never lost the "Honda Jim" label or was he able to keep up with any of us on the old iron. He's gone now, and he is missed by the remainder of the crew. He eventually laughed about the "Honda Jim" label so we3 started calling him and his wife (good looking model) GI Joe and Barbbie.
Don't knock thoes honda riders too much, you may miss them some day.
Several years ago I was invited to a gathering of
some 1%ers. I had a Yamaha, but they said they
didn't mind. I found out in time they do that sorta
thing so they have somthing to really trash.
Honda makes a good bike. I started out in the early 70's on a Honda CB 100 and moved up to a Honda CB 175. Good bikes to cut your teeth on and easy to do a lot of your own upkeep. I have a Harley as that has always been my fantasy bike. The power, the mythos and the way they look. Also, the added bonus for me is the HOGS. Always nice people to ride with and something going on nationwide and local every week. I like the benefits you get with being in the HOGS and also with the road program. KNowing that if I break down all I have to do is call and my bike will be towed in and if I'm out of town they will pay for a hotel. Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, they don't have a group around my area that gets together for rides or comradery. I like the way my Harley rides, sounds, looks and performs. Always lots off after market parts too. I know if I have to sell my bike, Heavens forbid, I will be getting a lot more back on my investment then I would if I owned any other brand. Just my penny's worth.
Healthy competition from other manufacturers, foreign and domestic, is the best thing that can happen to HD riders. Only through competition will HD, which is, afterall, a major corporation, answerable to it's shareholders, continue to push for product improvements as a way of maintaining market share. If the only large v-twin on the market was HD, what would motivate the company to improve the product? That being said, I'll stick with my Wide Glide!
as a sidnote here,i have never cared what someone rides, just to get out and ride, that is what it is all about !!! dang.going fer a ride with my son this eve on his honda
