Default engine check light of 2002 classis

OK here is the deal. Have HD 202 Classic. Has run real well up till about a week ago and then it started "lugging" or lagging. Acting like it was missing on a cylnder of not firing on a plug or not getting enough gas or getting too much gas. Have no clue!!!!!! When I turn on the bike the check engine light comes on and then goes off after I start the bike. Bike runs pretty good for a while and then starts to do the lagging thing again like it's missing , but there is not any backfire or anything else. Then it will stop for a period of time and run great and then again the lugging. Check plugs, checked the fuses, checked the connections to the air intake of the breather. checked the battery, checked all the fuses on the left side . Everything is fine!!!! Yesterday changed the plugs and was getting better performance for about 19 miles and tehn the lugging again only this time it was worse. Check engine light kept comming on and off and I did not think I was going to make it home. Luck I did. Called friend in colorado for advise. (he sold me the bike) and when went throught the checking procedure of the fuses etc. This morning I was goingto take it down to the Local HD dealer and have them run the diagnostic on it to fine out what the F---k was wrong. No charge for the diagnostic but then again can you really trust the HD services guys ??????? Anyway thin refuses to start and the check engine light stays on all the time now and I cannot hear the fuel pup running at all. Also the security seems to be acting funny also because now the key light comes on and off at intermittent times. About to set fire to the thing and call the insurance co. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Borrow a truck and take it to your dealer. Could be fuel injection and or fuel pump.

Every time the check engine light comes on the bike will store what the problem was at that moment, so a diagnostics test will give you the answer. Do you have EFI? It probably is the 02 sensor.

There was a problem with the rubbermounts like yours with the wiring harness being strapped too tight to the frame that caused the font injector harness to break a wire inside the insulation to that injector, very common thing in baggers. Hard to locate because the insulation covers the break in the wire itself, takes a bit of inspecting to find it.

Front Injector Harness On Touring Models
You may encounter an intermittent hesitation and historic front injector code,
P0261, on Touring models. If so, the condition could be caused by broken wires in
the ignition harness very close to the injector. Since the insulation is not damaged
the break cannot be seen. Wiggle the harness to determine if the condition exists.
If you do find a broken wire, it is likely due to a mis-positioned tyrap causing the
wires to the front injector to be pulled tight. The combination of insufficient slack
and engine movement can cause wire flex leading to the breakage. When you
repair the wire, be certain to allow slack in the ignition harness to prevent a
recurrence.

Check both your battery connections and your ground connection. EFI is very sensitive to voltage drops.

Hey I checked out this wed site www.harleyhogs.co.uk/M_Bulletins.html and found 9 recalls on this related subject. Headed out to the Shop now to drop them into the lap of the service manager and make sure ALL!!! the **** is done!!! I know the co-owner of this particular dealership and have known her for about 15 years. Her husband use to own the shop but he died and she took it over and to say the least I think she is more in it for the $$$ than he was. Anyway gonna make sure the job gets done right the first time. If you all have any other sites that show recalls or service bulletins let me know. The site i mentioned will print all the specs and also the reimbursment form for the dealer to fill out so you don't get the charge. Smart Shopper here guys. o

Check the connection under the cover below the seat. Make sure the connector is clean, dry and locked. I had a similar problem and it turned out to be my Power Commander. I mailed it to Dyna Jet and they sent me a new one: NO charge. My check engine light usually came on when it was wet; however, as time went on, it came on even in dry weather.
