Default 05 and Earlier TSM/TSSM Password Relearn & Fob Proceedure

Harley ECM Password Learn Procedure

When installing a new ignition(ICM) or ECM on a security-equipped Harley there is a "Password Learn" procedure that must be performed. This applies to all Twin Cam and V-Rod models with factory security but may also apply to Twin Cam's with EFI. The TSM/TSSM and ECM have "learned" passwords that synchronize the control module with several other components. Once you remove a component from this chain the module shuts down and won't start. This is reported to only occur with EFI models but the new 2004 carbureted models demonstrate the same shut-down when changing the ignition module.

Once you have installed the ignition module and reconnected the battery, perform the starting sequence as normal. The engine will cough once in an effort to start but will fail when the module shuts off the fuel.

Special Note: During the Password Learning procedure the ignition will remain in the "On" position for an extended period of time (30+ minutes). While "On", power is supplied to the headlight thus draining the battery. If the battery charge drops below a certain level during the Password Learn procedure the process will cease and you will have to start over. To avoid this connect a trickle charger to the battery throughout the procedure.

TSM/TSSM ECM Password Learn Procedure
Step Action Confirmation Notes

1 Set Run switch to Run

2 Turn Ignition key On-Off-On-Off-On-Off-On and then toggle
the Left Turn Signal switch twice.

3 Turn Ignition key Off-On Verify the Check Engine lamp and Security Lamp illuminate
briefly and then turn off Security lamp will not illuminate on non-security
(TSM) Twin Cam models.

4 Attempt normal start one time. Engine starts and stalls immediately. check engine
lamp stays on. Password has not been learned and sets trouble code P1009, thus stopping fuel
flow.

5 Wait 10 seconds Security Lamp remains lit for V-Rod and TC88 with TSSM. Lamp will not be on for TC88 TSM models. ECM enters Password Learning mode for 10 minutes. Do Not cycle the ignition or disrupt power.

6 Wait until Security Lamp turns off or a minimum of 10 minutes has passed.

7 Quickly (within 2 seconds) turn Ignition key OFF-ON Security Lamp remains lit for V-Rod and TC88 with TSSM. Lamp will not be on for TC88 TSM models.

8 Wait until Security Lamp turns off or a minimum of 10 minutes has passed. Password Learning mode for 10 minutes. Do Not cycle the
ignition or disrupt power.

9 Quickly (within 2 seconds) turn Ignition key OFF-ON Security Lamp remains lit for V-Rod and TC88 with TSSM. Lamp will not be on for TC88 TSM models.

10 Wait until Security Lamp turns off or a minimum of 10 minutes has passed. Password Learning mode for 10 minutes. Do Not cycle the ignition or disrupt power.

11 Quickly (within 2 seconds) turn Ignition key OFF-ON Security Lamp light and then turn off. Lamp will not be on for TC88 TSM models.

12 Turn Ignition switch OFF. Wait 15 seconds. Turn Ignition switch ON and start engine to confirm the Password Learn Procedure is successful. Engine will start and remain running. If engine immediately stalls and fails to restart the Password Learning mode was not successful. Start over at step 1.

The above steps must be timed and performed exactly as described. Any deviation will require you to start again from step 1.

Default Push Button Alarm Key Fob Assignment

This must be done when you buy a new key fob for the alarm if you loose one.

I assume you know your personal entry code using the directional switches and the key switch to activate , if not , it's in the owners manual.

If you never set the code, its 7-7-7-7-7

1. Set run switch to off
2. ign to acc
3. hold both turn sigs till lights flash
4. use left turn signal to enter number by pushing 7 times
5. use right turn signal as enter key
6. repeat until all 5 are entered and you hit enter

lights should flash and you should be OK.

KEY FOB ASSIGNMENT

The key fob on TSSM motorcycles must be set so it will operate the alarm system on the vehicle.
This assignment must be completed with no pauses between steps greater than 10 seconds.
Turn the ignition OFF after all key fobs have been assigned.
The programming mode will also exit after 60 seconds has elapsed without detecting any fob signup messages
or turn signal switch activity.
Two key fobs may be assigned to the TSSM.
The first successful attempt to program a fob will disable all previously assigned fobs.
If a second fob is to be programmed, it must be done in the same programming sequence as the initial fob.

Default TSM/TSSM Rapid flashing Signals

Purpose
Harley-Davidson wants to assure that dealers are using the
proper setup procedure for turn signal modules (TSMs) and
turn signal security modules (TSSMs). This procedure is
required because motorcycles equipped with a self-calibrating
TSM/TSSM are designed to work with a variety of turn
signal light bulbs with different current loads (domestic and
HDI bulbs have different current requirements). The procedure
outlined below allows the TSM/TSSM to measure the
turn signal current draw when all turn signal light bulbs are
operating properly. This procedure must be re-initiated after
each time the vehicle’s battery power is removed or interrupted
so that the TSM/TSSM continues to operate properly.
When a turn signal light bulb burns out, the TSM/TSSM
detects the difference in current draw and flashes the turn
signal/indicator lamp at a rate double that of normal operation,
informing the operator that a turn signal light bulb is not
operational.
Motorcycles Involved
●
All 2001-2002 models except Sportster.
●
2000 models that have been equipped with accessory
Harley-Davidson security systems listed in Table 1.
Required Dealer Action
If battery power to the motorcycle is removed or interrupted
for any reason, the following procedure must be performed to
ensure the turn signal module continues to operate properly.
This must be done before delivery of a new or repaired vehicle.
1. Reconnect battery per service manual procedures.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the IGN position.
NOTE
During the next two steps, observe the turn signals to ensure
that all bulbs are operating. If you detect a burned out turn
signal bulb, turn off the ignition switch, replace the bulb and
disconnect the battery. Then repeat this procedure beginning
with Step 1.
3. Actuate the left turn signal. Allow the turn signal bulbs to
flash at least five times.
4. Actuate the right turn signal. Allow the turn signal bulbs
to flash at least five times.
5. Turn off the ignition switch.

Default HD Factory Security System

Harley-DavidsonÂŽ Factory Security System

The only security system designed and approved by the Harley-Davidson Motor Company. When armed, the Security System disables the starter and ignition while monitoring the electrical system and vehicle motion with adjustable sensitivity. Minor disturbances trigger a momentary warning; major ones an unbroken thirty-second alarm after which the Security System returns to monitoring. A distinctive four-way flasher pattern is the alarm signal. An optional self-powered Smart Siren Kit adds a piercing scream, which sounds even if the battery cable is cut. Harley-Davidson Factory Security System includes Security Module (integrated security, turn signal and bank angle sensor), Remote Control Waterproof Key Fob and Pocket-Sized Operation Manual. An Extended Storage Mode keeps the battery from discharging when the Security System is armed for extended periods of time. 2000 model year vehicles require installation kits (sold separately).

HARLEY-DAVIDSONÂŽ FACTORY SECURITY SYSTEM DETAILS

When armed, the Security System disables the starter and ignition while monitoring the electrical system and vehicle motion with adjustable sensitivity. Minor disturbances trigger a momentary warning; major ones an unbroken thirty-second alarm after which the Security System returns to monitoring. A distinctive four-way flasher pattern is the alarm signal. An optional self-powered Smart Siren Kit adds a piercing scream, which sounds even if the battery cable is cut.

The Security System is armed and disarmed with a remote control waterproof key fob utilizing state-of-the-art rolling code technology. If the key fob is not available, the rider may disarm the system by keying a previously entered personal code on the turn signal switches. A flashing status indicator informs the rider that the Security System is armed or disarmed.

When armed in the Transport Mode, the Security System disables the starter and ignition, but monitors only the electrical system, not vehicle motion. The vehicle may be moved, but electrical tampering triggers an alarm.

An Extended Storage Mode keeps the battery from discharging when the Security System is armed for extended periods of time.

The Security System is compatible with FL Touring models equipped with approved TLE/Ultra Sidecars when the system is configured as described in the SIDECAR OWNER'S MANUAL.

Additional Smart Siren
Harley-DavidsonÂŽ Factory Security System Smart Siren Kit
