Decided to take apart my tach to see if I could change the color of the lights. It's pretty easy. There is LED's in there so I'm gonna try and find a place to buy new ones and put them in myself. Now I can clean the glass on the inside of the lens and seal it when I put it back together.
I'm having a heck of a time finding out where to get the bulbs? my dealer is trying to find out for me. It should be pretty easy once I get the bulbs figured out. If anyone can help with the bulbs I'd appreciate it.
Brett, you are fearless lol, Seriously if they are LED's try doing a Google search for LED's. May be able to find them at a electronics supply store.
I think I'm just a tad bored or something. LOL I figure if someone else can do it then so can I. If it went together then it can come apart. I tried google and called a couple places but no luck so far. I'm not gonna give up nor am I going to put the gauge back together until I figure it out. I'm just hoping someone reading this can give me a hand. Plus I get to clean the lens on the back side now.
Can you give us a picture of the bulb or is it soldered in. Any # or markings? What about Radio Shack? LOL Dan
My pen is pointing to the leds, there are 6 of them and 3 down below used for indicators like cruise. I only need to change the 6 that are in the circle. They are small. No numbers that I can see? does anyone recognize these LED's?
I've got a stock 06 Ultra...
I have since found a set of Spun Aluminum guages for sale and bought them...
The guages were missing 2 of the Red incandesent bulbs...
The guages have the Red LED's in the tack and Speedo but the others are the old fashion style with the flat portion that inserts into the connection...
I had to order the Bulbs from the HD stealer, these have a Red Rubber booty on them...
So with the red LED lights from the tack and speedo and the Pastel red from the other 4 guages they look ODD....
I noticed that kuyaken has some led bulbs that might just do the job...However at $10 a pop I'm real hessatant to make a $40 purchase and find out they wont work...
on one other site I frequent there is a Man that is changing the colors of the leds for those that want this feature...
It seems that he said there was like 11 bulbs in each guage (tack and speedo)
he's got the background done in Blue and the needle in Red...Looks nice to say the least...
I tryed PMing him but his mail box was full so I e-mailed and havent heard from him at this time...
If the bulbs are the small ones they can be gotten at FRY'S Electronics and you then can do the soldering to the circuit board...
All I need are the Plug in bulbs and it would be nice to have LED as well...
anyway
How did you get the inner and outer shell apart and where did it come apart
I've got the extra set of guages that were stock and if I could get them apart I might be able to see what they look like and help somemore...
If you find out where you can get the incandesent bulbs that are like 10 watt in red that might work for the smaller guages...but the rubbers really do look to say the least like **** being unmatched...just another H-D FUBAR which they didn't want to fix...
